its not a problem, not even close to wide scale
just a few as always experiencing problems and ppl throw fits

cant yall see a legitimate reason for something that allows you to store games on your HDD...

i.e. not having to get up and put in a disc everytime u wanna change games... ?..

thats the main reason i will get anything like this... i long for the ability to just store ALL my games on hdd and play without having to touch the system.. its so annoying

Yeah that would be great but in this case it would be at the expense of online play which would suck for most of us lol.

For sure if PSN started releasing more full games like steam on PC I'd probably move away from discs and download straight to HD.

Well they kinda are moving to this disc game download future.
They recently have done this with Little Big Planet (Europe), inFAMOUS, Red Faction: Guerilla. And mp games like Socom and Warhawk.  (Small download sizes, 5gb tops)

For us techies... hellz yea we'd make the space to play a game on our external hard drives and such.
For mass market though, people would complain about "30-45GB" game downloads. On top of that, broadband net is still not as widespread but is certainly getting there. Most people don't even know they could upgrade their PS3 harddrives. Additionally they may not want to spend money on that as they can't wrap their minds around not owning the physical game box.

Me personally if Sony went digital download, I will upgrade my hard drive and I will get my games digitally for the convenience of booting off the ps3. Additionally, you don't need to worry bout losing the game, cuz you could redownload it in future (like steam etc.).

PlayStation 4, Next Xbox iteration, Nintendo iteration will surely be digital download ready for all these games..I hope.

sony already stated that they not moving away from discs anytime soon and that ps4 will use discs

right now my 500GB more than halfway full already

its just not a smart idea for sony imo to go that route anytime soon as they stated
dloading games like MGS4 would be a bitch even with my 50Mb connection and my HDD will fill up in no time dloadin games that size

no no... digital downloads is not necessarily what i meant...

i dont care i buy the game in the store as a disc... i jus want to be able to copy the disc to my hdd... so that i can play without havin to insert it everytime...

with the ps3 already so lock down.. it shouldnt be a problem for them to give people the option to copy disc contents onto the system and have some sort of authentication everytime the game is run in order to prevent the copy and pass scenario

You read my wrong
I know they going disc based for PS4 for exactly the reasons I listed.
I implying that downloading games should be optional on PS4 for those that don't mind the download sizes and space, just like with Steam and PC.

@ phoenix, yea I hear you. It would be pretty sweet to backup your games to the HDD and run from the PS3. As of right now I don't think there is any authentication system that could avoid the pass and copy scenario.
I believe there are some PS3 games that you can install to HDD, but must have the disc inserted for authentication. This is so far the only legitimate way to running your game off the HDD which defeats what you want in the first place, i.e. launching games from the HDD without having to get the disc.
Tis why digital download is the only solution to that problem, and as of right now its a mixed bag with the consumers.
