I really don't know who expecting big reviews for this kinda movie. From the time the samurai with a minigun was shown it was obvious what it is. Plus it's Zack Snyder's personal project, the studio basically let him loose for this :laughing7:

Gonna see this opening day Weds, can't contain my excitement much longer >_<

Btw this wasn't aimed at you eh Berzerk was just letting ppl know it's more of a popcorn movie lol.

Summer starting early this year yes.

In all fairness though, can't blame folks for being surprised at the reviews. Snyder is known for his highly stylized flicks that are full of awesome...from 300 to Watchmen. All received good scores. When I saw the trailer for this flick I thought..."typical Snyder". But why is this one the first to be received so poorly? What's different?

Not arguing that it won't possibly be fun despite the feedback so far...I'm hoping it will. Might have some beers beforehand to prepare me mentally.

Hopefully the other big flicks coming out this year won't require us going in with low expectations.

Well I don't really watch movies based on reviews nah if I see the trailer and it excites the hell outta me I go lol.

Im a Snyder fan so I should be satisfied. As for the main difference between this and his other movies, he crafted the story himself. Maybe he hasn't nailed it this first time but idk, I'll watch first and come up with an opinion after. Tho it is getting raped from professional critics most of the user reviews seem to dig it.

I don't usually post lengthy reviews on here but something about this movie just has me excited.....besides the fact that I like Snyder. Expect mine in the coming week.

steups @ the professional movie critics

IMDB scores looking decent enough

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0978764/

Suckerpunch gets a more respectable 6.7/10 from users

a lousy 3.5 / 10 from critics

I dunno, maybe the more refined movie aristocracy find these type of movies too base and crude for their tastes.

Hopefully by weekend I'll get to cast my vote.

Suckerpunch.....in a word, Awesome! Was way better than expected. From reading critic reviews that bashed the film for being choppy and having a sub-par story I was just prepared for a movie with action scenes with a little dialouge to get you trhough till the next action sequence.  This story is like metaphors built upon metaphors, if u weren't paying attention enough u would've missed something that becomes relevant in a later scene or at the end of the movie. Sorta like how Inception had 3 levels; 1.reality 2.dream 3.dream within a dream Suckerpunch has reality, sub-reality and then the fantasy world being imagined.

Action scenes were EPIC and stunning I am pretty sure I did not blink O_o. From the first battle with the 3 samurai warriors in the dream world,  fighting zombie soldiers in the trenches of WW1, battling orcs, medievel warriors and dragons to faceless cyborgs aboard a speeding bullet train with a bomb set to go off. Each battle takes place in a diff "world" and acts as metaphors themselves.  Acting wasn't great but good overall, supporting characters did their part and Emily Browning as the main character  Babydoll was effective. The soundtrack for the movie was original and used as a storytelling device to drive certain scenes, 2 songs were done by Browning herself, 1 by Carla Gugino and Oscar Issac while the others were various remixes of songs.

Only after the movie was over and I was discussing it with friends we realized all the little details and metaphors that were in this movie like POW! an unexpected punch to the face. Is that why Snyder chose Suckerpunch as the title of this movie? Maybe, maybe not but when you think about it that way the title makes sense. In interviews for this movie they kept saying "it isn't linear" and I was like wtf does that mean and well now I know, its how YOU yourself  interpret the movie. In the end my loyalty to Snyder paid off and I did not regret spending the money to see this as it is still on my mind at this very moment.

All of the above is why I guess this movie has good user reviews compared to "professional critics" to hell with them yes  :awesome:

9/10 Not a 10 cuz I wished it didn't have to end lol

Well if anyone wants to have a spoiler discussion after seeing it I wouldn't mind  ^_^ cuz there are a lot of side plots and other little things to talk about.

It was good for real??...allyuh is the first set of ppl i hear say that which is a relief cuz i wanted to see it real bad. But after the gf went on rotten tomatoes and see how the critics rip it to shreds she was like "if we see that then we have to go watch Justing Beiber". So I am still yet to see it, lol.

Well for me this was a prime example of a guilty pleasure. Just enjoy the ride, don't try to make too much sense of it lol. Then again, some folks out there are actually forming serious theories about "hidden meanings" in this film. All I was really curious about in the end was Babydoll's dance...would have loved to witness this amazing dance that blew everyone's mind.

I don't really think this is the kinda movie your GF would enjoy unless she's very open minded.
And yes there are hidden meanings behind this, Even Snyder said so himself. Gotta admire the dude for what he tried to do.

http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/features/interview-zack-snyder-on-the-sexuality-and-world-of-sucker-punch.php

Quote
It has. For me, I honestly think with Sucker Punch – it’s weird. I feel like people either see it two ways: completely in the overt version as exactly what they see, which is just this girl going crazy and then going on this adventure for no reason. That version of the movie that people see is as a super straightforward movie. Or people see it as a crazy, sort of, commentary on genre films and what is sexuality and why the girls are dressed like that. I think that’s also valid, because that’s what the movie is.

Link has more info for those who have seen the film, should offer a little more insight into it. Also who cares about the critics really unless they confined to watching one type of movie or on a budget.

I think this is another example of what the critics call a "disconnect". That's when critics tear it a new one but audiences love it.

I give it 8.5cc's of nut-job juice out of 10. Too many unanswered questions but that also forms part of the film's appeal imo i.e. the "what if" factor. That leaves freedom for the viewer to speculate on or even dictate some of the parameters of that universe. Also, I smell a sequel if enough money is made from this one.

Wow, I totally missed all that "hidden meaning".

A commentary on nerds. Well that flew over my head completely. As did the reason for dressing them the way he did.
