Repeater Router Help Needed

I've been trying to set up a repeater at home, for no other reason than to boost signal strength to my ps3. Running cables are out and moving the router to another place is a whole nother problem.

Could use alot of help is anybody have the know-how. I on flow, using a Dlink DIR-655 Xtreme N-router as the Acess point/base station and trying to get a Netgear WRG614v9 in repeater mode.

I'll give you my own personal opinion on 'boosters' I don't want to touch them with a 100m pole. I've heard ppl say they used them successfully, however I think they're a waste of spectrum. Wired or within the range of the source fullstop. That being said, objectively speaking, i'm sure someone on the forum will be of assistance. Just keep in mind that if you're gaming online wireless==increase lag.

I agree with using wired connections but left with little choice save for either running 50-60ft of ethernet cable or drilling through walls. Seeing as how I got the second router recntly for somewhere else, I figured I could set something temporary up for the time being. Didn't realise there was so much technical stuff behind it.

You can run a network cable to drop somewhere between your current wireless router and where the ps3 is, somewhere convenient and make the netgear a secondary access point, assuming that the ps3 will pick up the wireless signal adequately from the middle ground.

You DO know that the maximum distance run you can make with Cat5e is 100m right? aka well over 200 ft. I suggest you run cable.

The point of this is to -avoid- having cables running everywhere, even just one long one. I came across that link myself while trying last night. It helped a bit with the general setup of it all but in the end, using the instructions there didn't work

how are you reapeating, WDS?

seems to support dd-wrt but the firmware on this router is pretty buggy at the moment, you could of use the repeater or clients mode to accomplish your task.


you can sell the netgear router and buy yourself a linksys (check trading grounds hardO/C is selling one it may still be avaliable) or asus router.
