So here is a glimpse of what the future of the HTPC may look like....no HTPC

I present, the Smart TV

Running Android, this could sit in your living room and negate the need for any additional box to handle all of your disc-less theater needs (streaming, downloaded vids, etc....) as well as basic computing. (surfing the web, reading emails, video chat, etc...)

It has Wii like functionality via accelerometer as well as kinect like functionality with the built in Camera

Basic biometrics (face recognition)

Voice commands

Games

and more

The highlighted specifications of the K91 include:

8GB internal memory
1GB RAM
1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor
5MP webcam
SD card support
802.11b/g/n WiFi
10M/100M Ethernet
HDMI, USB 2.0
Voice control, facial recognition

That is about the power of a netbook for starters. Should be more than sufficient for HTPC duties.

Should be interesting to see where this convergence of consumer technology goes.

Chinese technology giant Lenovo, currently the world number two producer of notebooks, has beaten Apple to the jump in its rumored TV ambitions by releasing their own set : the K91 Smart TV. Available for viewing at this year’s CES, the device will initially only be available in China, with worldwide availability expected shortly.

The slightly unexpected device from the Chinese manufacturer will provide typical TV functionality with its 55-inch display, combined with what is claimed to be console-quality gaming capabilities. In a move that trumps even Google’s own TV offerings, the new TV includes Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 OS, and will recognize voice commands. The firm says the K91 unites all three smart TV functions by offering videos on demand, internet applications and traditional TV programs.

It packs a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 8060 dual core processor, a 1920x1080 pixel IPS LED backlit display, 3D FPR technology that provides a flicker-free 3D picture, up to 240Hz refresh rate and fully integrated wireless B/G/N support. Also included is an integrated 5 megapixel webcam, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage, plus the usual HDMI connectors and DLNA support. Meanwhile, the remote control has a gamepad style design, with a touchpad and five-way directional pad as well as a motion sensor.

The company moved away from the more typically used Chromium OS in order to take advantage of Ice Cream Sandwich's facial recognition features for screen unlocking, natural language processing (NLP) and video interaction through the integrated webcam. This is literally the first smart TV to incorporate a dual core Snapdragon dual core processor and run Google’s Android 4.0 operating system.

good looking out Preston but that was in the Android thread. It is worth mentioning here in the Home Theatre topic as well.

Don't you agree?

Nice, if a bit modest setup there Mez. You have your gaming PC hooked up to that as well for added bang?

Well guys, it's that time of year again for me to upgrade my Home Theater equipment, but this time i really dove of the deep end. I mortgaged my PC parts to afford all this shit so don't count on seeing any benchmarks from me for a while hehe :)

New Front Left/Right: A pair of Paradigm Signature S6 (Replaced my Studio 100s), absolutely amazing sound, completely blew away them Studio 100s.

New Surround Right/Left and Surround Back Left/right: four Paradigm Signature ADP3 (replaced my Studio ADP-590s) same amazement as the S6.

Subwoofer: weighing in at 250 pounds, the might Paradigm Signature Sub 2 (replaced my miserly Studio Sub 12). This sub comes with a warning in the manual "Can cause structural failure in poorly constructed homes when connected to 220 vlots", I called bullshit, but after me and the paradigm guy straind our balls trying to lift/push it into the house for a demo, we connected it to 110 instead, the good news is, the house survived, the bad news is, even at 110, the sub shock the house to shit when we did the 50 to 5Hz sweep "Not hearinh any bass but feeling something sucking the air out your lungs and vibrating your bones is a crazy feeling! :)

Projector: JVC DLA-x70r 4K(eShift) 3D projector,  amazing projector

Screen: SMX "ProLine" Fixed Framed Projection Screen in the Cinemascope Format ( 2.35:1 Aspect Ratio ) 152.1" diagonal, ( 59.6" x 140" viewing area ) with the "CineWeave" Acoustically Transparent Viewing Surface for sound transmission. I have had enough of stupid black bars when watching Cinemascope movies so decided solve that problem.

Anamorphic Lens: Panamorph UH480 Model "F480SYS" Lens. This is needed to complete the Cinemascope setup by letting the projector do cinemascope and keeping its full resolution (No zooming to fill screen)

Amps: I need shitloads of power to drive them signature series speakers, so i went with Three Emotiva XPA-1 Monoblocs for the Right, Center, Left, (500watts each  :awesome: and two XPA-2 to drive the four surround speakers (250 Watts per channel  :awesome:

Processor: I am sticking with my Anthem AVM50v processor, but i bought the 3D upgrade daughter board for it:

( I'll need a small nuclear reactor to run all this shit :( )

unfortunately with the level of speakers and that crazy sub, i could not house them in my house :( way to much shaking not to mention that projector screen takes up my entire wall :(, so will be building a dedicated room just for them which will become my home theater, here is a little viso of my current design

I will post a link later on next month to my AVSforum thread when construction of the room begins for anyone that wants to follow the progress with the building and acoustical treatments i will be doing to get really superior sounding cinema! (Its amazing how different speakers sound in a room that is acoustically treated, trust me the same speaker sounds 50 times better.

The End

Yes meh boy, how yua like that eh? upgrade yua HT and have to end up upgrading yua house to contain the upgraded HT or it shake yua regular house apart  :shakehead:

Check dis, Walls on the room i have to build is reinforced concert 6 inch blocks for outer wall, inner walls is 2x4 framing with one inch gap from outer concrete walls, one sheet of 5/8s ply on the framing first, then this compound called green glue, then one layer of 3/4 sheet rock ontop the ply, more green glue ontop the sheet rock, then a final layer of 3/4 sheet rock  :awesome:

I think is real life unless i trapped in an Inception virtual world
