ATI Radeon HD 5870 - Problem Detecting?
« on: April 24, 2010, 12:11:03 PM »
Just recently bought a ATI Radeon HD 5870 to replace my Radeon HD 5830 (which btw is a great card)

My problem is i'm not sure if the drivers are actually picking up my video card correctly, on my 5830 when i use GPU-Z or ATI CCC it would say  "ATI Radeon HD 5830" but with my 5870 it detects it as "ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series"

What i want to know is if anyone has a 5870 or 5850 does it actually say the correct name or does it say 5800 series?  I believe my drivers were installed correctly and i do get decent frame rates like bad company 2 can max out with all settings and never drops under 60fps.

i've always known the GPU-Z to show the series of the card... back from my 4870's to my 5770's

i think your 5830 would be the anomoly in this one...

It always shows '5800 series' for me.

Don't sweat it.  The app 'knows' what card it is.

That's not an issue, that's how it was meant to be.

Game on.

Yea that is showing up the series, no biggy but my advice from reading about the "Diamond" brand of cards is to stay away from them if possible. They don't seem to stand up as well to the other brands in terms of quality.

I know this may be different with other ppl but I intend to get an ati card later this year and been reading reviews/rate of DOAs and RMAs alot.....just my 2c

ok thanks for information, i think phoenix31tt was right about my 5830 card, because i do remember on ATI website when downloading drivers the 5830 was in a separate group.

as for buying buying a diamond card, i didn't want that brand but the sapphire and XFX 5870 cards have been sold out for almost 2 months now so i just got tired of waiting and ordered the diamond as it was the only one available at the time. my 5830 was from sapphire and isn't even 2 weeks old yet, so i managed to get it sold pretty quick, its pretty powerful and runs BC2 at 1920x1200 great, just if u put on AAx8 it starts to slow down  =/
