Kotaku has received an image of a game store placeholder box for the next game in the Assassin’s Creed series and Ubisoft has confirmed that it is real. Dubbed Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, the game will feature AC II protagonist Ezio Auditore da Firenze. The image reveals many details for the previously unannounced game, including these words from the back of the box:“Live and breathe as Ezio, now a legendary master assassin, in his struggle against the Templar order. Lead your own brotherhood of Assassins and strike at the heart of the enemy: Rome. And for the first time, take part in an innovative multiplayer layer allowing you to embody an assassin of your choosing and define their killing style.”That’s right, the new game includes multiplayer, a franchise first. While this may not be an entirely surprising development, considering the movement in the industry toward including multiplayer in games, it should be interesting to see how this is brought in to the Assassins Creed world. AC II was certainly a game whose single player stood quite well on it’s own, but a multiplayer could be very cool (and very vertical) in 15th Century Italy. Also included on the box is a release date of Fall 2010 and confirmation that the game will be made for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC (hopefully Ubisoft fixes their ridiculous DRM for the PC version). Viva l’assassino!
