Super 8
« on: May 07, 2010, 02:33:11 AM »

Dunno if you guys read about this movie JJ Abrams has been working on without any media attention until the last few days. People thought his next movie was gonna be the sequel to Star Trek in 2012, however it turns out he has a movie coming out NEXT YEAR...some folks have speculated that it's Cloverfield related but it's not.

TEASER TRAILER

Super 8

Looks VERY intriguing. With Abrams at the helm and Spielberg producing this is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Yeah while reading it I was like wtf does this have to do with anything...

Apparently, there are hidden clues in the articles.

This blog uncovered some: http://www.super8news.com/2010/05/14/the-rocket-poppeteers

First clue is another viral site:
http://www.rocketpoppeteers.com/

The second clue is a hidden message...check the blog to see how to uncover it. Not sure what it means yet.

Also, the guy in the Rocket Poppeteers ad is apparently Gordon Cooper, a real astronaut who claimed to have spotted a UFO whilst in space.

UPDATE on the scariestthingieversaw viral site.

This time when you get to the end of it, type .EXEC EXPCNV

It will prompt you for a path. Type "/desktop/Braegen14/expcnv.dat"

Then you'll hear some strange sounds lol. Kinda makes you think about Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Check the wiki for more info:

In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

I like how the trailers build the suspense without giving anything away.

Carefully engineered by messrs Spielberg and Abrams no doubt.

Great stuff.  I really want to see this one.

Well I saw it yesterday. Twas nostalgia galore. I'd describe it as a violent ET lol. Like the Spielberg sci-fi flicks from the old days, this film takes its time developing the characters, the mystery etc. Very unlike the fast paced sci-fi actioneers we're so accustomed to today.

I personally really liked it, enjoying the nods to past classics and the expected superb direction by Abrams. I know some people who didn't like it though. Also there were a few things I thought could've been better, especially the ending which to me was a bit...anti-climatic. Also not too original...but then again its a tribute. The kids' dialogue could have been better at times too.

Overall, a 9/10 from me. Still one of the better flicks I've seen this year, despite its (few) flaws.
Stick around for the kids' short film during the credits, it's awesome.

Very well done movie. Brings me back to the days when characters in movies actually meant something. 9/10 from me as well. Also the short film at the end had me rolling LMFAO.
