Well last night inspite of his new doohicky Wyatt REFUSED to join our game, join our party, reply to my messages and even dropped out of a game myself and redlum jumped in to sweat with him... was it...

I managed to get into a Free For All Wyatt jumped in without us, and he went 20 - 20, I went 25 - 22...I assume Wyatt's excuse is his connection?

Was trying to setup the Xim. So I was switching back and forth from PC to 360 (on the same screen). Half the time I would come back to the 360 and see that I was kicked from the game. Guess for inactivity or being idle? In between that was talking with the misses (who was in and out of sleep on the couch)

The good news is that it works. The bad news is that its bloody complicated. Soooo many variables. Customizable to a fault and there is no "perfect" setting. It all depends on your play style and what keyboard/mouse you're using. Especially the DPI of the mouse. To make matters worse, the setting varies from game to game. So after you've got something workable for say Halo. You need to do the process all over again for Call of Duty MW2, and then again for BlackOps.

Gonna take a lot of getting used too or a lot of fiddling to get it just right. Been reading on the Xim forums till my eyes started to bleed. Fun Fun.

Hopefully it will be worth it but I must say, this is taking a frustratingly huge amount of effort for something that should be sooo simple.

Hmmm. Is there any way to save the settings after you've come upon a config u like so that u dont have to reset for each game?

It would suck if you cant.

After all is said and done, how would you compare pc vs the 360 in terms of feel and accuracy?

Thankfully, you can save the config file. It came with profiles for cod4 and halo 3.

I already have about four for BlackOps from last night's experiment.

Still got a lot more testing to go before I'm comfortable with one.

The feel is much better than the Max Shooter, accuracy is still off. I'd say its about 60% of the look and feel I get on the PC. Tried with two different mice. A G9 and an elcheapo logitech.

Was too lazy to bring down the MX500 from the bedroom last night but I feel that is the next step.

I bought another g500 with adjustable DPI. Hopefully that will work better.

Hearing good things about the MX518 with its 1800dpi on the forum. Again, it all depends on what you like in terms of "feel".

Was real catching my skin with this aim assist last night. Tried turning it off and the targeting appears smoother now.

One of the lead designers on Halo had this to say about Aim Assist. This explains how it works and why. Best explanation I've read to date.

John Howard: There's nothing we're doing in Shadowrun that we didn't do in Halo in terms of aiming. There's a couple small things that if people want to sit down and play Shadowrun or Halo or Halo 2 they'll see. There's a little bit of aim assist inside the reticule. So if you have a reticule over a target rather than having to put an exact point on a guy, it'll help out a little bit there. There's also something called friction. As you move over a target, your rate of turn will slow down a little bit. It's almost like the guy's made of sandpaper and when you move really fast and get over him, your cursor will move a little bit slower. So what it does is it basically takes the stick range and says you have to push further on the stick to go faster, so it basically creates fine motor control out of gross stick movement. And then there's something called adhesion which as that target moves, it'll drag the reticule around a little bit with it and actually rotate you. And this was happening in Halo and Halo 2; it's there and people don't even know it's there. We've had developers come in and asked them "are there any sort of cheats or aim assists in Halo?" and people go "no." Well, there are, but they're not like target lock or any of these gross ugly ones. They're really there just to help to make it possible to aim, it's all based on skill.
