the real deal breaker with projectors are the ludicrous price for lamps.
If you can be guaranteed a stock of lamps at a reasonable price for say the next three to four years, they are a great option.
In the office, we may spend up to $4800.00 on a single lamp. Lasts about 6 - 9 months on less used projectors. About three months on heavily used ones.
The real win would be a new LED based projector. Those aren't as powerful so you need a dark room (which sucks) and are expensive but as soon as the price drops and the technology improves a bit in terms of lumens, they can't be beat.
The lamp in an LED projector would last about 5 - 10 years!
