After nearly two years of speculation, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on Monday that Chris Evans will be playing Marvel Comics' iconic hero Captain America in the big-screen adaptation.

The movie, titled "The First Avenger: Captain America," was announced in 2008 after Marvel Studio's first production, "Iron Man," became a box-office hit. The names of many actors -- from established stars to mostly unknowns -- have been rumored to be up for the role for months. Action movie veterans Channing Tatum ("G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra") and Garrett Hedlund (the upcoming "Tron Legacy") were reportedly considered, as were TV regulars Chace Crawford ("Gossip Girl") and Scott Porter ("Friday Night Lights"). Even wild-cards like "The Office" funnyman John Krasinski tested for the part.

Nah well FF4 getting reboot ne way so we don't hada worry about him playing 2 characters in the same universe. Not happy he is Cap tho....Mike Vogel or Hedlund would have worked some much better. Why Marvel? why? :\

Looking at all those pictures I can't help but wonder if they were really casting for Captain America. None of them look the part. First Ryan Reynolds plays two Marvel characters and now Chris Evans. Other than Iron Man the last good Marvel move for me was Spider-Man 2. I was really hopeful for Captain America but not anymore. Lets hope Thor has a better casting.

Yea the Thor movie already had its cast and filming is already underway same for GL. Also bear in mind they were casting for a young Captain America.

Well Evans really surprised me in Street Kings tho so we'll just have to play the waiting game and see.

I just had a thought... Instead of "Johnny Storm", why not use Channing Tatum as Cap? He wasn't bad as Duke and I think he's got the look (better than the Torch anyway).

When the rumors were going around bout casting he was in there. Besides they want someone who could act >_> ..... so Evans trumps Tatum in acting

After watching "The Losers" and remembering cool movies like Street Kings, Not Another Teen Movie and TMNT...I'm confident that Chris will do a stoking job. He also acted the human torch part good....Just the fantastic Four Movies sucked...and he wasn't so bad in Push and Cellular...but those movies were also so so....but yeah I can imagine him now as Shield Throwing badmon....can't wait

I guess I am the only one who doesn't think he will make a good Captain America. It has nothing to do with his acting ability, I'm not doubting that. Its that he just doesn't have that look. Captain America is like Superman, he should really have that iconic superhero look, broad shoulders, square jaw, etc.

Maybe in costume he might pull it off.

I know about Sunshine. I haven't seen it but I was very interested. Like Eroo said, I don't think he has the LOOK. Tatum does. That's about it. Maybe even that kid from Supernatural, the brother with the short hair.

Either way, I don't think Evans has the LOOK that I know to be Cap. RDJ was a stretch as Iron Man (I thought he was too short) but he does it well, Brandon Routh was a decent fit as Superman and I knew from the get-go that Clooney would SUCK as Batman although he can act(ish). Somehow, once you fail with the look, your acting can't make up for that IMHO. It just bugs me.
