Need For Speed World...
« on: March 17, 2010, 07:31:01 AM »
Seems like EA is taking the Need For Speed franchise in a whole new direction.

Can you say MMODG (Massively Multiplayer Online Driving Game)?

I am liking this idea...a LOT, but the gameplay here would depend wholly and solely on the quality of your broadband connection.
Not a problem in more developed countries, but it might be a real pain to play from good ol TnT.

There's a game we've been playing in beta on XBL Arc, called Blur, it's an arcade title but with up to 16 players in the same game, it runs smooth like silk, and we're talking about ppls all over T&T and the US and elsewhere all in the same game with no issues. I think playing this in Good ole TnT will be just fine.

Oh really?  Sign me up then.

The amount of stress I've had with my broadband, and with TSTT in general, I'm tempted
to make the switch to Flow, but I'll miss the flexibility of my current setup (network-wise).

Did you know you can sign up for the upcoming Need For Speed World beta?  Just follow the link in the article.

'Flexible', as in the issuing and control of IP addresses, and NAT settings on the modem itself.

interesting.

it was the other way around for me. Due to having a wireless router (doing nat) and the tstt adsl box also doing nat, I'd end up with a double natted network.

TSTT Blink DSL Box (NAT/DHCP) -> Wireless Router (NAT/DHCP)

Going with flow cut out one level of nat.

So now it's:

Flow Modem (no nat) -> Wireless Router (nat/dhcp)

Having just one nat instead of two makes life easier when trying to host some applications behind your network that aren't double nat savvy.

Well, I don't use a separate router.  All NAT/routing duties are handled by the Blink modem.

That single-IP Flow modem thing I do not like.  I guess Blink kinda 'spoil' me with theirs.  :)

yeah and blink is even better if you get the new modem/router with the built in wireless that they are offering.

All in one. No need for an additional router at all and then you get the same benefit of just having one nat/dhcp to deal with on your network.

win win.

hhahahaha @ quoted twice.

Set it up for a few peeps and it worked fine. No fan of TSTT (I switched to flow) but can't say that I ran into trouble with that wireless router/modem at all.

Crixx I totally agree with you on that POS router TSTT gives. I also have seen this issue with a few ppl where the modem simply loses it settings and you have to go back in and set it all over.

you're kidding? some of the newer linksys routers do that too. nasty bug. After the 5th one pulled that stunt by a customer I sweared off linksys and switched to the dlink dir 655.

Good heads up. Will stick with recommending the flow setup.
