Interesting... as more and more happens.... again I will reserve my judgment for when we have hands on the game in question. I'd just like to point something out, when everyone + dog was bashing blactivision for being money hungry and not caring about the gamers everyone was in an uproar, now capn you try to sell us some they want to make money idea... sounds like same ish different day to me, just saying. And NOONE defending COD and rightfully so, I question, why are you championing bf?

In some ways I'm thinking CoD was keeping EA honest.

Not feeling the love with this latest move at all. So why they can't have the game on Origin or whatever they calling their digital distribution platform AND also on steam??

seeing some backlash here

http://www.vg247.com/2011/06/15/crysis-2-now-only-on-origin-d2d-impulse-more/

dunno if this guy's comment is true but its worrying:

Quote
the current version of Origin is bad. why? because it crashes your games (battlefield bad company 2) and it doesn’t have an auto-update feature. the interface could use some improvement and they could allow u to use your own avatar.

oh and one more thing, u can’t buy stuff unless u live in US or Canada. epic fail EA!

Another raised the question, if you bought Crysis 2 on steam (which I did) what happens when updates are released? Would steam still automagically update your version?

well i am wondering if i should buy BF3 hard copy on Amazon, but how would i save my data like rank, guns ,kills etc?? i think we may need to go with the Origin but i am afraid as this is new and the implications of the many issues like server quality and the feared hacking of accounts just to name a few could be ....... DREAD!!!!!

Yeah, Steam has earned my trust over the years. Very reliable.

Not hearing good things about Origin from reading around the net this morning.

I have a problem with game makers making than half hearted effort in their games (cheap console ports for pc) and still charge top dollar. You guys (wyatt, i'm looking at you) said that this was so because high levels of piracy on pc made them go the lazy man route. I  strongly disagree with that reasoning but others say that is business.

Regardless if a developer gained their fame popularity on the pc, they will do what makes most business sense right? I say, lazying out on the damn thing is a SURE way to NOT make money on the pc.

That said, why am I championing bf3? Because the damn thing has been in production for upwards of 3 years and the hard work put into it is clearly evident from videos we have all seen. THIS is what development used to be like back in the old days until people started jumping on the 1 year RAD bandwagon. What is the result? Games like blops that are barely distinguishable from 3 and 4 year old games.

So why bash Activision and not EA (in this case)? Because ea has a winner on its hands. A genuine gem of a game. They recognize that and want to capitalise on that. Who wouldnt?

My issue is when publishers repping a crappy game and acting like is the best $hit around.

Tsk Tsk EA, if this is true, BF3 may be the best FPS this year, but if Wyatt's fears are warranted, then EPIC FAIL!! EA will join Activision on the PC gamers Hit List...LOL

I am willing to bet that PC gamers will not crucify EA this time for bf3 because we talking about a QUALITY game. Regardless of if it comes from the brick and mortar store or Origin, gamers WILL go out looking for it because it is GOOD.

This is my point. Quality games sell themselves. Say what you want about EADM/Origin, i'm yet to see one really valid negative comment about the service. Of course, compared to steam it is no where near as convenient but it serves its purpose. I have experience buying games on EADM and I was always able to play purchased games. I really dont understand what all the fuss is all about.

Quality does NOT sell itself, the stats that Wyatt put up a while back wrt games like Read Dead were LESS than stellar. It takes more than a 'good game' to sell.

Ok, a good mix of quality and hype sells games. i've never played red dead and i'm sure its as good as everyone says but there are always exceptions to the rule, as with everything else.

lol, awesome you showing some blind faith here man.

I remember being properly well spurned by my initial battlefield bad company 2 experience. Bugs galore and borderline unplayable. From friend list shenanigans to not being able to shoot or stab a man at point blank range. Server and client side issues. Waiting for map packs became a running joke. Whenever they did come, turned out to be a different mode on the same maps.

Took a LONG time before they "got it right".

As much as I'm looking forward to BF3, I'm not going to turn a blind eye to EA's antics.

They haven't been exemplars in recent experience.

Here's hoping they heed the criticism from us gamers and do deliver on a brilliant Battlefield game on STEAM as well as Origin.

Don't force us to stomach Origin for no good reason other than greed.

All I saying is Shiv suggested EA is not the 'knight in shining armour' they are trying to project and these 'little' nuances are just hints... but again until I see it myself I will reserve judgment.

@wyatt BC2 map pack thing was a fail, they admitted to that, but you can't say the game was unplayable because we played every day with or without the friends list or bugs.

(back to talking about bf3 now)

I've turn awesome to a monster yes and I'm liking it lol.

Bottom line is  steam or not we all getting the game.

Well I cant argue with the fact that bc2 had its issues at launch. I am confident that they have learnt a lot from it and we will see the fruits of this learning in bf3.

As for maps, dont even get me started eh. Even though some of the maps are remixes of original maps, the different game mode is enough to make it different enough. Not to mention that there were a few solid brand new maps included, ALL FREE.

Imagine with competing titles, you get the same exact maps that were in the previous game and you PAY $15us.

I'm not saying that EA is not evil, but when compared with blactivision, they are considerably less evil.

You DO realize this completely discredits the idea that they are making a 'quality game' because part of the 'quality' is the TOTAL experience. Whats the sense if you have the bestest engine, bestest graphics, bestests gameplay and HORRIBLE online interface... jes saying is all. XD
