I totally understand why the PhysX is not being allowed into the scoring for the rankings.

However, here is my 1 cent:
People buy certain cards for specific features sometimes. If said feature allows for better performance in a given scenario, then so be it.
I remember back when i was now getting into computers, and i asked "So what graphics card to buy with my limited budget?", and one of the main responses were "buy a card that can play the games you want to play, well".
For instance, at that time, ATI cards excelled in source engine games, and the comparable NV card was a bit more expensive, however they excelled in other games which the ATIs did not.

My concern here is that we are not giving the added capabilities of the CUDA cores any attention. You cannot tell me that PhysX helps in no way in gaming, because many of the machines here can prove to you that in-game performance is improved for the games that support it. In fact, have any of you even seen the difference between an ATI card and a NV card with CUDA core in Just Cause 2? The added programming capability allows for extra implementations and functions in gaming!

The question here now, is "what is our benchmarking geared toward?", is it geared toward showing off bandwidth and raw number crunching power? Or is it about the technologies that we are leveraging to give us the best gaming experience?

doomtack, this topic was discussed to death in the benchmarking development thread before a conclusion was come to.

Why you didn't voice your opinion then?

Not saying the issue can't be re-opened....but they really gave it a good thorough discussion before making it a rule.

netizen, hymc! is only so much work de admins could do....help a little nuh.

I would suggest actual gaming benchmarks.. however that would:
a. Prove VERY expensive as we'd need several titles
b. NOT costly at all in terms of funds but in terms of 'aquisition' time and setup

I would honestly opt for b. However it would require to all agree on the games, just to explain a bit, we'd want DX9 titles, DX10 Titles, OpenGL titles and then a weighted average system. I would LOVE this btw, but most ppl find my levels of benching... exhaustive... I do honestly think that is a BETTER overall guage than 3DMark. Vantage is quick and dirty but I think it's synthetic for the most part. Who else hears me?

w1ntry, ent we agreed to have two threads for this?

One with your exhaustive benchmark version....and one that was simplistic with just 3dmark/vantage?

Threads cheap to make (free as in beer) so no reason not to have your cake and eat it too!

win win (pun intended)

updated the number one spot to include FirstChoiceTT's most impressive score.

I've said before, I'll say it again. Did not expect anyone to surpass Messiah's rig in 2010.

Yuh could update my score, nothing much, just some new drivers and rebenched, but it makes that firstchoice gap just ah tad bit smaller til my next upgrade :)

So wait...y'all still accepting his 'I work in the company' propaganda?  :laughing7:

I tell you...some of us trinis too 'bright' again...

i think by now everybody smell d rat, who ent smell it yet, nose clog up with swine flew.

but anyways, moving along, ill upgrade my machine as scheduled, i eh fighting down ah company.  :) Which is not fair game imo and shouldnt be park of d rankings. I din say nothing becuase ppl will say, i juss vex my score get beat lol. But i was told by a wise Gustavist, to voice it :)

Also, when i came with my beast rig on d forums, i had to prove my worth, and had to make all kinda 50+ posts, and go through all kinda ground training, and all kinda thing, before my scores were accorded to d gatt top 20 rigs.

Thats all she wrote.

myself and isme2003 could easily combine our uber rigs, go get d sas controller and some 15k rpm drives from dem new servers now reach in to build, rig everything up, bench it, and call it ah score :), but he have he gpu, i have mine, combining dem for ah top score errrr eh make sense :)

fall eeen the sweat and show them otherwise.

i din read ah single rule on dis forum, and yet still i know what to do, and din make a bean, i never hear nothing bout no 50+ rule before, but dat was required of me, i din ask for it to be included in d official rule. I juss do it. And is common sense ah company shud not be competing here, and if u come competein as a company, dat makes no sense. Why shoudl there be a rule to omit companies from benchmarks, men should know dat for they self. And men know exactly that, which is why they trying to pass machines and parts off as their personal rig.

But like i said before, i was not going to say nothing, becuase i know somebody would say i bitching :)

I cud care less anyways, i know who i competeing against on d forums.

As the site continues to evolve, new rules come into play. Its natural progression.

lol, rage...you taking medicine for a next man fever?

while some of us will post our scores for fun...keep in mind that others will post their scores to compete.

And as in all competitions...there must be some rules and guidelines to keep the thing fair.

fun and competition can co-exist, can they not?
