This is a genuine katana used for competitive cutting of tameshigiri (rolled up bamboo mats). Its made up of 9260 Spring Steel, a very hard yet flexible steel that allows the blade to bend 45 degrees without taking a bend. It has a double bo-hi (blood groove) for reduced drag, lighter weight and more precision in cutting.
I cannot stress enough that this is a genuine katana, not a worthless stainless steel wallhanger. I have taken it against water bottles, bamboo mats, 3" thick bamboo, and even tree limbs and it has never failed to slice through effortlessly in one cut and without any blemish to the blade.
The price is $2400. Although it usally retails onliine for $300 US ($1900 TT) Considering how difficult it is to bring a sword through customs I think this is a small mark up to pay.
