Wii Exercise Bike

Hmmm.....would not spend money on this.

Exercise bikes are dull. Unless it is raining, there is no excuse not to just go outside on a real bike: it’s both better exercise and way more fun. There would be one exception. Say you were playing a video-game so good you didn’t want to stop, but at the same time felt the need to get the blood pumping. That would surely be the ideal time to use this stationary bike controller for the Wii and its companion game, Cyberbike.

Sadly, the game itself looks horrible, little more than an afterthought tagged on to justify buying a giant plastic bike to further clutter your home. In it, according to the gamers at Kotaku, you save the planet, cleaning up pollution by flying your bike over things. Wake me up when you’re done.

The controller is at least compatible with Mario Kart. Alternatively, go down to the basement and dig out the exercise bike you already have and sit on that while playing Mario Kart with a normal WiiMote. The price of the Cyberbike has yet to be announced ahead of its 2010 launch, but you can be sure that it will be more than the zero dollars my solution will cost you.

case of great idea, poor implementation.

The wii has positioned itself as the only "active" nextgen console (for the moment anyway)

They could nail that point home by coming out with a serious piece of exercise equipment...or adapting an existing line like BowFlex. Imagine a world wide online stat system tracking how much you pumped and pressed. Compare to friends, etc...

If they're going to bring out a bike, then something like the attached would quicker hit home. Networked exercise bikes with upperbody motion for a real life, virtual biking experience. Outdoor attitude, indoors.

Now this is next level equipment worthy of a next gen console.

I hear ya.
Even though the idea does seem ridiculous...in the end its something that would work and a vast majority of casual gamers would be wowed and buy this.
Its just too silly for us hardcore gamers me thinks. or me for that matter.

Just for reference, once of those bikes I posted above cost like US$1500.00

More than enough room to fit in a wii as the "computer backend". Wifi 'em up and boom.

You get gyms the world over re-inventing their spin class with Nintendo hardware powering the transformation.

Nothing to sneeze at. That commercial success could easily spin off into residential success, once they could offer a lower end unit of course. Say for US$500.00 (BYOWii)

I fail to see how this is their fault though, nothing in the article indicates that Nintendo is developing this, in fact in one corner of the box you see the name 'Big Ben' quite clearly. Big Ben Interactive is a a European 3rd party developer that makes games/ accessories (normally the accessory is the core product) across all platforms.

If you need to hate anyone for this idea, go here  http://www.bigben.fr/index.php

o yea my bad. You usually just assume this is affiliated with nintendo, wii vitality sensor, wii fit, wii sports etc..
