Metro isn't slowing down Windows 8 (as evident by its blistering speed)

No need to remove, leave it there, for those who would need it. I thought we crossed that bridge already, lol

Why waste a perfectly good SKU number

In this case I don't think it matters from a speed perspective whether it has metro or not, remember metro was written to run on an arm architecture, which dramatically slower than a traditional PC. And windows phone was running lightening fast on old old hardware. The strength of metro is it's speed. It being there or not being there not gonna affect d speed of the desktop. What I find slowing down the desktop....is desktop apps. that aren't optimized, just written for windows with lazy programming. Is them apps that does slow down the desktop.

Windows 8.1 is CRAZY fast.

Really...it couldn't be faster nuh.

It is so fast that I am writing this from a shitty laptop HDD, probably a 4200RPM and literally, do not miss my SSD.

For sure, the SSD will still improve certain use cases dramatically...but for average clicking around the interface and getting work done...it is indistinguishable from my 256GB SSD.

High praise. Metro ain't slowing down jack.

That's a great step forward but the giant leap would be to be able to disable the metro UI and Metro apps.

On another note, upgraded motherboard and cpu on htpc - switched from AMD to Intel - was all already to reinstall Windows 8, as every other mobo+cpu switch I've done required an OS re-install, but lo and behold Windows 8 booted up, spent a couple minutes getting the devices ready and is up and running.

Yeah, really solid driver support on Windows 8. Amazing OS.

It doesn't break as easily as the predecessors when moving around hardware.

...because in MY experience, a mobo change ALWAYS requires Windows 8 to be 'reactivated'...which is a headache in itself.

So wha...trinigamer special orr?
