Yea boy, that price for d surface rel sexy, based on the price of the Taichi and Dell XPS i was expecting ah lil 1300 also, but ah flat grand, niceness. My current vaio more powerfull than it, but i mite be willing to sacrifice some power, for d added portability, touchscreen, and sexyness. Slap ah 64GB SDHC card in there, and good to go.

Check how it stacks up against the competition:

Thing is though...if this is going to replace my netbook, I NEED to get that type-keyboard cover, which is an EXTRA 200 usd.   Yikes!!!

I think I just felt my wallet cringe a little.  :laughing7:

I may actually have to consider the new Dell XPS 12, which also has a touch-screen, but it's also significantly heavier...and you can actually buy one today.

Hmmm...decisions, decisions.

Correction...

" The Surface with Windows 8 Pro will be available in two flavors: 64GB for $899 or 128GB for $999. Both versions will come with a Surface pen with Palm Block technology and support Microsoft's Touch Cover or Type Cover, which run $119.99 and $129.99, respectively."

That '129.99' looked like '199.99' when I read it.  :laughing7:

Even with type cover yuh talking $1130 retail launch price.

In 2 months that sucker will be going for sub 100$, cant complain atal with prices like that anyhow u take it.
And i heard on the interweb that once you give the type cover a chance, its actually pretty epic.

Personally i going for the type cover.

D XPS 12 good eh, but that surface juss too sexy to pass up boy.

I know Intel has made some improvements in their integrated graphics department.

The Intel HD Graphics 4000 in these Surface devices is semi decent.

But I can't see myself spending top dollar (US$1000+) for something with a semi decent graphics card.

I'd spring for a proper laptop with a fast 3D graphics card from Nvidia or AMD.

If I just want a tablet, the elcheapo nexus at 1/5th the price will do just fine.

In fact, I could get both for under the price point of one full fledged Surface with Windows 8 Pro. Best of both worlds immc.

Seems I'm not the only that thinks so.

Microsoft just cut back their order by half, acknowledging tepid demand for the new product.

Wyatt, that half order is for RT devices, dont get them confused. They cut RT in half becuase man want and waiting on and going to buy the Pro device.

Also to address your point. Some ppl dont care about gaming in laptop form, i can attest to that. I pay 1750$ for d ultrabook i using, and it cant play games....maybe some starcraft 2 here and there, but nothing to write home about, i wont be found playing games on it, i usualy used d gpu to practice sc2 builds, and shop in diablo 3 auction house.

Gaming is for my beast pc, and if i want to game on d move, thats what my phone for, plant vs zombie type games is for mobile, which the intel 4000 going to handle just fine.

Also, it have some ppl not willing to carry around multiple devices. again thats me. It's the reason i dont own an ipad.
I need something to run full windows apps whenever im mobile, and it have nothing d ipad can do that my laptop cant, so why carry around both? The convience of a tablet is removed if u still have to lob around a laptop.

The surface for someone like me makes perfect sense, becuase 1. i not concered about hardcore gaming on the move, 2. i need to be productive, and 3. i want mobility and convience of the surface design, 4. it have many situations where im stuck with my laptop in my hand walking around troubleshooting shit (touchscreen slate device perfect for that).

So all in all, a surface pro with said specs for 1000$ is eye candy for my use case scenario. And there are alot of ppl with such use case, especially in my field, everybody in my office getting a surface pro. Everybody was previously gettin a dell or taichi, but the price of the Pro is really hard to ignore. Especially when u getting such build quality, light weight, and eye catching. When you bounce into a client office and rest yuh surface on d desk, men eyes will pop. (And trust me, there is value in clients seeing you coasting sexy tech.)

All in all, ill never own a tablet unless it's able to do what my laptop can do. The Surface Pro is just that.

Lord of the rings up in this biatch, 1 device to rule them all. lol.

Well this is a gaming forum, so forgive me if I don't let their lack of a respectable gpu slide without some challenge.

I'd agree with 1 device to rule them all if it had solid graphics.

At that price point, its unforgivable to me.

For US$499.00 Sure....bring on the Plants vs Zombies.

But not at US$1000+ man. That's just wrong.

I noticed right away that they didn't even mention the graphics in the comparison above. shame shame

Maybe next generation they'll be ready for my $$.

Intel is promising to do fantastic things with their integrated HD line but they just not there yet. AMD will keep them honest I hope since they are a bit ahead of the curve in that respect.

Imagine how awesome it would be to have your tablet be your laptop be your portable gaming rig. Dota 2 on the move immc.

2013 / 2014 ftw

Well this is a gaming forum, so forgive me if I don't let their lack of a respectable gpu slide without some challenge.

Really? i thought it was a Battlefield 3 and Android forum lol.

Anyways... lol...

Dont get me wrong, i want d surface to be a powerhouse in gaming as much as the other guy, but then again it's simply not possible given our current level of technology. So i not expecting it, and not expecting it for years to come.

Quite frankly d only feasible gaming laptop for me costs upward of 2500$ US, big, heavy, and power hungry.
I tried the mobile gaming thing once (XPS 1710, talk bout epic, back in them days, that laptop was eating full fledged desktops for breakfast). But these days, mobility, battery life, convince is more important to me on the move, than gaming. I have nuff game to play when i go home, and when i on d raod, only opportunity i have to game is quick stops. And that's where PvZ type games comes in. They are still games that are enjoyable lol.

But ultimately, the price you are paying is not for games, is for everything else. And when compared to d competition, if you have to pay for what you get in the surface with any other oem, you are going to be paying more. And there are tons of ultra books out there that cant game, just take a look at the Asus Zenbook line. And they sold...extremely well.

Leaked info talks about, Surface RT2, Pro 2, and Surface Book. Maybe the surface book is what you go want, but from the sounds of it, it's going to be closer to an ultrabook than a tablet. Yuh have to face the fact, yuh just not going to get what u want in tablet form for some time. So yuh cant rate down surface for lack of something that is not technologically possible at the moment.

But again, to each his own, if your really need to run hardcore games on the move, then clearly surface (nor any competing form factor) is for you. Yuh just going to have to lob around multiple devices.

I on the other hand, going to be rocking my Surface Pro, and meh Lumia 920.

Well until the technology is possible to make a US$1000 mobile device capable to run proper games I'll stick with this combo

A US$200 tablet device (a kindle fire HD or a Nexus 7)
+
A US$600 laptop with a proper GPU (Like the AMD Radeon 7640G)

So for $8000 I get the best of both worlds.

Could go Maracas and sweat dota 2 on the beach with my 4g using the laptop and could relax in the hammock and run Plant Vs Zombies on the tablet. lol

Not too shabby and saving us$200 to boot.

*edit, I might have to take that back....some of the benchmarks for that 7640G looking real poor.

May have to increase the budget and spring for the bigger brother.

Found one.

7670 for just $49.00 more

Full specs of the laptop below:

15.6-inch LED-backlit display (1366 x 768 pixels; 220-nit brightness)

2.3 GHz AMD A10-4600M quad core processor (3.1 GHz with Turbo Boost Technology; 3 MB L3 cache)

750 GB SATA hard drive (5400 RPM)

AMD Radeon™ HD 7600M + HD 7670M Dual Graphics

6 GB of installed DDR3 RAM (8 GB maximum)

8x multi-format CD/DVD±RW drive

1.3-megapixel HD webcam

3W stereo speakers

How can a surface face off against that Tablet + Laptop combo and win? For less money?

You gone maracas to use technology boy?  ah think yuh miss d whole point lol. and kareos does play Diablo 3 on his i5, and sc2 runs on my mobile 2nd Gen i7, I think d Intel 4000 can handle dota 2 just fine, if that's your only concern lol.

I'd actually love to test it on an HD 4000 to see.

My i7 2600 has the paltry HD 2500.

If anyone up north side has one, we can arrange a meet up.

That may fix my main concern with surface if the 4000 turns out to be robust enough to handle DOTA 2.

It is surprisingly demanding.....I run it on a discrete 4850 here and the card struggles to maintain 40 - 50 fps. Dips to the 20s - 30s being very common.

I love Windows 8 but it hasn't turned out to be the shot in the arm the PC industry needed to get sales back on track.

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Windows-8-Devices-Microsoft-Sales,19430.html#xtor=RSS-998

Looks like the PC era is really on its way out.

I'll hold unto Anya as long as possible. Call me old school but there is just something comforting about a big old desktop computer.

I fear that edge will be lost with the next generation of consoles (new Xbox to be announced in 2013)

Desktop PCs are the last of the Mohicans.
