I'm willing to admit only that it eh completely buss. I do so willingly because at its core, it really is a wonderful OS that I enjoy using daily, bar a few caveats that have been discussed here at length.

As for getting better, i'm really interested in seeing what blue has to offer. Hopefully they will find a good middle ground that a larger majority can live with.

I comend you for your comments and agree that blue should find a nice middle ground . I have no problem with a lack of start on my pc but now that clients start going windows 8 and we start deploying Server 2012. i have to admit, remotely controlling a PC / server without a start button is highly annoying, having to find that bottom edge' over the internet is very time consuming and stupid, i Want a start button back just for that.

Another new option is the ability to boot straight into the traditional desktop mode, particularly useful for businesses who are considering moving to Windows 8 but want to avoid the Start Screen initially. Businesses can also configure Windows 8.1 to boot straight into an application or a company portal, but desktop is one of the many options.

You can also configure the Start button to go straight to a new All Apps section, which can be sorted by different views to make it more like a traditional Start menu with one click access.

Microsoft...THANK YOU for listening. I have to see these changes in action before I fully get down on my knees in thanks but from the description, it looks VERY promising. MS, yuh listen to yuh customers' outcry and responded with action. Well done.

Checkout a full preview here.

Finally, a more complete and sensible Windows 8, catering to the touch and non touch platforms alike. 8.1 could truly be the best Windows version yet.

I won't gloat, but let this be a lesson.

Never underestimate or discount the value of criticism.

I have to give MS kudos for this decision.
Companies need to understand that they can't tell customers 'this is what you want', especially when they have to pay for a product.

As soon as 8.1 is deployed I'll be buying an upgrade license for my mom's PC.

I really do hope MS learns from this and applies it to their other products and services...turn 'customers'  into 'fans'.

I think MS will still do MS.

They have to try right? If they have an idea they see as innovative, they have to try push it. If ppl kick up, no problem, just release an update. I much rather that, than to not try things.

Take vista for instance, it was horrible, but they had to try. Then windows 7 came along and got the same idea right.

What should be rel appealing to non-metro fans is the fact that MS fix their complains in a very short time, and they don't have to wait for Windows 9 to get what they wanted.

This^^

There are few times in life when you can have your cake and eat it too.

This is one of those times.

Kudos to Microsoft.

Different strokes for different folks. Linux has long been able to provide different GUI interfaces for the underlying OS without problem.

Glad to see MS taking a page out of that book. Long live the start button. lol

Ah yes, one of my favorite windows 8 features, Search, is getting a significant upgrade. Booya!

Microsoft Bing Team Details The New Search Experience In Windows 8.1

As Windows team took the wraps of their upcoming Windows 8.1 update, Search was one of the big feature that will be part of the update. Microsoft Bing powers the experience behind it. Microsoft Bing team today blogged about the new experience they developed along with Windows team that will change the way we think about Search. The 10 blue links concept is gone!  You can just find  whether it’s a document on your PC, a photo album in the cloud, an app, PC setting or a website with one single search and  in just a tap or a click you can play, view, launch, or browse items. How cool is that?

We think your digital world should be accessible without having to actually ‘go to search’. Just like few people say they are going to ‘go online’, we want to make ‘searching’ something that’s just there when you need it.  So from the Start screen in Windows 8.1, you can just start typing what you want.  A city.  An artist.  The name of your cat – it doesn’t matter.  As you type, you will see suggestions about what you might be looking for and a quick tap on any of the suggestions will expose you to a whole new way to use Windows.  Regardless of where something lives and what it is – a document on your PC, your photo album in the cloud, an app, a website, a program – with just a tap, you can play, view, launch, browse, and more. Modern search isn’t just about finding information. It’s about using your PC to do the things you love.

We think that your search experience should be beautiful as well as functional and we don’t think the two are at odds. Modern search takes the best of Bing multimedia and brings it into the Windows search experience to create something that’s not only useful and well-organized but also highly crafted. You’ll see rich images across all your search results that help you find what you’re looking for faster and help bring order to the vast information on the web. Modern search needs to be functional, and we think it should also be spectacular.

Here is an scenario Bing team told to provide us a view of how things work,

Imagine you’re planning a trip to Paris.  Simply type the name of the city and you’ll immediately see beautiful, full-bleed images, upcoming events in the city, and popular attractions.  But you can also check the current weather and book a hotel in the Bing Travel app, without having to open it up and type “Paris” again.  In the same way, your itinerary and budget, whether they are saved on your laptop or in the cloud, are right there. And of course, we’ll show you the great web results you’ve come to expect from Bing.  “Paris” isn’t just a single file or a search query in an app: it is a concept, full of both meaning and context, and we’ll bring its unique meaning to your digital life, all in one place.

Can you elaborate on that a bit, W1nTry?

What kind of problems?
I ask that because every PC game I've purchased in the last 6 or 7 years works splendidly on Windows 8.

@ Messiaah, Ubuntu is coming into its own as a gaming platform.

Seeing more and more titles being released for it as we speak and Steam is now the number one free app on Ubuntu.

Trine 2, Killing Floor, Team Fortress 2, Dungeon Defenders, Shank 2, etc...

That is saying a lot for a system that was only good for tux racer as far as gaming goes a few years back.

As soon as they release Dota 2 for Ubuntu, is gg no re for me since that's what I play 99% of the time anyway, lol

They still have a long way to go as far as market penetration is concerned.

Last steam hardware survey stats showed it still lagging behind windows 8 considerably. Though it did equal the 32bit version of Windows 8 which maybe an epic achievement for linux all the same.

Windows 8 64 bit: 8.89%
Windows 8: 0.74%
Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit: 0.71%

Loll dude, that list is laughable, Ubuntu is completely useless to me as a gamer. Unless I can get ALL my triple A titles on it, I not even considering it as my main OS.

I.E., bioshock infinite, tomb raider, metro last light, starcraft, Diablo, batman, dishonored, skyrim, mass effect, borderlands, devil may cry, watch dogs, star wars, metal gear rising, far cry, ass. Creed, watcher, etc Tec etc.

Unless I can get them all, don't even waste my time.
Ubuntu at this point is a watered down Xbox Live arcade.
Why give up such bevy of titles for features that Microsoft thiefing anyway? Loll.

And don't even make me start to list my productivity and tech apps that I rely on that aren't available on Ubuntu.
They've maid considerable progress yes, but a dramatically far cry away from me considering it.

Edit:
Those 32bit numbers hardly mean anything, all new PCs coming with 64bit, to install 32bit version of 8 you have to be putting that on old hardware and doing an upgrade. And when all d win7 crud tradition to 8, that gap going to be even further.
