Agreed at fixes, but the metro nay-sayers claim windows 8 will buss becasue of metro.
And also claim that it doesnt matter whether the general populous likes metro or not, once a few techies and a few journalist dont like it, it destined to fail.

And i can say from now, maybe 2% of the world's population will be using start8,classic shell, or any of the form.

Imagine i went by a client today to setup a new desktop for quickbooks, what i go meet? ah 23" all-in-one windows 8 machine being used like normal. Metro and all.

They won't claim that Windows 8 will fail after they use classic shell so the noise ends there.

The vocal minority can have a massive impact on sales. Those few techies and journalist have phenomenal reach.

I always say the internet is write once, read many. This gives authors unprecedented visibilitly.

For example this topic on our little corner of cyberspace has already been read 13,000+ times. Only about six or seven of us are actually actively participating in the conversation but their are tons more reading it.

Vocal minority.

Agreed, but in this case i dont think the vocal minotiry will have any impact on the sales of windows 8 atal, Windows 8 too solid, and MS monopoly on PC too strong. Like i said before, is not like is vista or me and something actually wrong with the os, is just some ppl doh prefer the metro ui, and as much as it may be a big deal for the vocal minority, in the grand scheme of things, it doh really matter. At least where Windows is concerned.

Anyhow yuh take it, everybody happy in the end, metro-haters have variety of options, everybody could like theyself.

So it's like you said, the vocal minority did actually have an impact on thing, allowing for solutions like start-8 and classic shell to even exsist, Mite not have an impact on global ms sales, or the future design of Windows 9, but at least speaking up got the ones who want it alternatives.

GG.

Right now i more concerned about the MSN issue.
Received this email last night:

"Hello,

On 15th March 2013 we are retiring the existing Messenger service globally (except for mainland China where Messenger will continue to be available) and bringing the great features of Messenger and Skype together. Update to Skype and sign in using a Microsoft Account (same as your Messenger ID) and all your Messenger contacts will be at your fingertips. You'll be able to instant message and video chat with them just like before, and also discover new ways of staying in touch with Skype on your mobile and tablet.

Update Now

Yours sincerely,
The Messenger Team"

Geeze, skype is great and all, but honestly all i use that for is voice and video calls, the chat interface SUCKS!
Id much prefer they took skype voip and intergrate that into msn, than the other way around.
The skype metro UI sucks too, lacks alot of features and just feels clunky.

Desktop Messenger app, and Metro Messaging app is alot better.
But come march 15 desktop messenger gone! Jah!

MS still has not announced what they plan to do about the Windows 8 Messaging Hub, and WP7/WP8 messaging hub/rooms as these features heavily rely on msn. Would they integrate sykpe chat into them, only time will tell.

But 3 months aint much time to get that right. I sense a troubling few months ahead for msn users.

As someone who hasn't logged into messenger for ages, I couldn't care less. lol

Not that I use skype much either.

Microsoft could integrate both into myspace and use a Justin Timberlake pic as the default profile image for all users if they want.

Yes, been that way for years now, if I din know better I'd think MS own fb, given the strong ties and integration between fb and ms, fb voice chat powered by Skype and all lol. And fb chat is integrated into MSN, windows 8 messaging and wp8 messaging. And them there is the strong non-chat fb integration with outlook, WP, win8, etc etc.

So messenger app on desktop was much more prefered than having to use a webpage for fb chat. Especially when my convos synced to phone with auto location detection. I.e. Msn/fb chat knew what device I reading d messages on and only alert me on the device in question. So If I chatting on PC and takeup phone and leave, my phone would automatically start alerting me of the incoming messages. Quite brilliant.

One of my major allures to WP. So u can see my concern with Skype taking over, I betters not lose my functionality, ah done spoil.

Yea this has been so for the last 2.5 years just add fb account to msn app and u never needed to open your browser for fb again but not many were aware of this the UI was much nicer as well they trying to put this into Skype but it not working out as well I guess we will see by march and well with windows 8 u just sign into messaging and people and have all your contacts in one place

Yes, but as one of those who did the Skype/MSN merge earlier... I am now without any MSN contacts, on Skype or MSN app.

So now I only have ppl on Skype... Ah fraid to do the FB connect with Skype now... :(

Like I will have to abandon everyone I had as a contact on MSN

I've been using my Microsoft Account since the merge. Still using it, even though there's no one on Messenger.

I tried re-adding ppl, and they all show as offline, even though they're not (person right next to me, so I know). And everyone sees me as offline as well.

Friends/family I talk to all the time, asking me how come I not online anymore these days... :(

Ok, Microsoft starting to subdue my fears of this whole skype thing, looks like they starting to put things in place for streamline integration.

This one is for the power-users...

Basically, it allows you to edit the WIN+X menu.  Simple as that.

From the makers of Start8 and Decor8... ModernMix.

Run your Modern UI apps on the desktop...in actual windows...you know, kinda like how it was supposed to be in the 1st place.  :)

Now you can banish the Modern UI once and for all.  :happy0203:
