Dream Monitor
« on: September 11, 2009, 06:54:09 AM »
For your review, I present The Samsung Touch of Color T260HD. Today I plan to purchase my dream monitor, after salivating over it for almost a year.

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Touch-T260HD-25-5-Inch-Monitor/dp/B001AYCNIW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=pc&qid=1252666198&sr=1-2

Tell me, fellow tech denizens,

Is there a better display to be had for the cheddar? US$386.00

I have a 32" HDLCD that I use for PC/Tv/Console... honestly.. with the space in my room and positioning... it's not perfect... I looking to buy a 21" LCD sometime soon... great for gaming on the console and watching movies... NOT good for using the PC... talk about neck ache... I guess I could also consider instead, getting a pivoting wall mount XD

That hannsg looking damn attractive @ US$309.00

mcmcmc

Yeah the Samsung'stuner is a plus not that I plan to use it. So it doesn't earn any favour from me over the Hannsg.

What it does have, is multiple inputs. So I can have the nexgen consoles hooked up simultaneously with my PC and switch between the two. Is that worth 2" less and US$100 more?? Million dollar question.

Interesting w1n, not a technical issue perse with the 32"? More of an ergonomic one?

Ever played RTS games on it? How does that work out for you?

Why the drop all the way down to 21"? Why not 24 or 26?

The reason I didn't want to go to 32" myself, I felt the screen would be too big. I would have to practically look left and right to see all of the action, if I'm sitting a foot and a half away from the screen.

Like being in pit @ movietowne. lol

I think win's tv is a 13x7 resolution. personally, that res pi$$es me the hell off. After 10 minutes even I will go back to using a monitor instead of that 32. 19x10 ftw. A 32" as a monitor is for if you've got a bit more space. I plan to get a vesa mount and put it on the wall and sit slightly futher back. NOW self i not coming out the house.

The 28" IS sweet. Look how long I telling you about it noob. If you need extra inputs, there are HDMI switches for that purpose. Come on man, know how to work the system.

It is beginning to look a bit small though, hence the size bump intentions.

which monitor has its share of flaws? Could you give more details berzerk?

Sweet find @ HDMI switch. that's what I love about GATT.

Chakra iymc Mr. Awesome sir.

Been reading all the reviews and it's really hard to decide now between that hannsg and my samsung.

I might have to flip a coin.

The Hannsg is coming under attack for quality issues.

Reviews like this:

After less than a week of proper use, it stopped working by showing a blank white screen. I returned it and haven't bought this brand again, as I discovered a lot of people had very similar problems in reviews written on Newegg, Epinions, etc.

A bit scary since that's exactly what happened to my old 24" and no one could fix it. Leaning back to the Samsung for build quality.

On another note, seems 22" monitors are blessed with faster response times. 2ms. Above that, 3 and 5ms is the norm.

Might be a consideration for fast paced games. Need the bigger size for the 1080p though so I'll have to live with that.

was speaking about my Hanns G 28 HG281  monitor.

there is a high degree of flickering, and shows some movies extremely dark from time to time. Ive fixed most issues through adjustment, but the flickering had me worried before, it has subsided though.

Also here are some folks that had some issues with said monitor.

DO NOT BUY THE Hans G HG281

ok...the first video just has a red message stating that there is backlight bleed. Not sure what the 2nd video is shwing but what I think they talking about is not bleed, but in fact the game. I have had none of those issues.

yeah, apparently not everyone gets the lemon hannsg, but enough do to make it a serious point for consideration.

The # of lemons on the hannsg wouldn't be a deterrent if it was a local purchase and I could just walk back into pricemart and say "gimme a next one dey".

Ordering online means it is so much more important to get a product that won't need to be returned for defect.

Marry that with my past experience (24" monitor went white after a couple months, fubar, steups).

Samsung gets the money.

Looking into the future, I see the perfect setup as follows:

22" Samsung for the PC for gaming (2ms response time, 720p graphics)
52" Samsung for the TV/Console/HTPC (Home Theatre PC) Full 1080p goodness, blu-ray, etc....

but for now, 26" compromise imc. Full 1080p on a shoestring budget without the 2ms quickness for games.

I had a 22" @ 1080p but found the font were annoyingly small at that res on that size screen.

The 26" has the dot pitch just right to make fonts easy on the eyes at 1080p.

Unfortunately, the input lag issue is very real >22"

Just saw this very pertinent video showcasing the difference. Up to 20ms input lag with the T260HD. Ouch.

2333HD vs T260HD input lag

Basically, you run a timer on the two screens (from one PC). Pause the video to compare the timer readings.

You will notice a difference of 0ms, 10ms or 20ms at various points along the timeline.

That 20ms is the punch to your face in Tekken 5 that you didn't see coming. Literally.

There is an asus 26" that supposedly doesn't have input lag. (not sure how they did it)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236047

But it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the Samsung.

Decisions, decisions.

That lag could be a real deal breaker on the PS3 (with Street Fighter and Tekken), also hearing of ghosting on 1080p HDMI inputs for the xbox 360. No ghosting on the DVI, only happens with the HDMI. Steups.

The 22" models don't have this problem.

Is there a perfect, 26" multifunction monitor out there??? got damn.

Really hate having to make the compromise. I'll give this another day or two of research.

Feel free to add your contributions.

while we on monitors
if anyone has to work with dell 19 inch flat panel monitor, the 1908fpc and have experienced the most annoying issue where the monitor height was adjusted down and now seems stuck in the down position and for the life of yo cannot go back up
then here
http://amoebe.wordpress.com/2007/09/23/get-your-dell-height-adjustable-monitor-unstuck-from-lockdown-position-push-the-monitor-down-just-a-bit-further/

deceptively simple problem to a retardedly annoying problem

as for ngw last post
ive heard mac noobs talking about the mac 30 inch screens like they were made from the beard of Jesus himself, could be worth looking into.

hahhha @ the comments on that thread crixx. People were really ketchin dey ass with that monitor stand. lol

steups @ mac 30". That monitor costs an arm, a leg and a gonad.

Well been reading reviews whole night till my eyes turned red and finally convinced on the Asus 26"

It does have enough bells and whistles (mainly multiple inputs so my devices can be connected simultaneously out of the box) to compete with the samsung. I wasn't going to use the tuner anyway.

Most importantly, it has no ghosting @ 2ms. Big screen with the speed of his small brethren. Amazing.

Unfortunately, it does bring quality issues to the table, like the Hannsg. Reports of failing back light and dead pixels.

So while it maybe technically superior the components are structurally inferior.

Still, @ US$100.00 less than the samsung and to avoid getting shot/punched in the face without seeing it coming thanks to no input lag, Asus gets the money

Also, if you're looking for a 24", they have a very attractively priced model at that size for only US$216.00. Can hardly argue with that.

Quick Summary:

Hannsg 28" US$309.00
Pros:
Big screen for small $$

Cons:
High failure rate and quality control issues
Maybe too big

Samsung T260HD US$390.00
Pros:
Perfect Size for 1920x1200 res (26")
Good build quality and design
Multiple Inputs (DVI, HDMI, Component, Coax)

Cons:
Input lag
Ghosting with key HDMI sources (PS3/XBOX 360)

Asus 26" US$289
Pros:
Perfect Size for 1920x1200 res (26")
Fast response time 2ms (No Input lag)
Multiple Inputs (DVI, HDMI, Component)

Cons:
Frequent reports of backlight failure and dead pixels

I have one of those Dells, and I had to find out about that issue first-hand.  Discovered it quite by accident too.

NGW, my bro bought the 24-inch version of that Asus.  Never have I been so impressed by a monitor in my LIFE.
Can't even remember where he got it from.  The only input it doesnt have is the component-RGB, but MAN,
no ghosting, no backlight bleed, and no lag that I can speak of.  I will get the model number later today.

Hard O/C, where'd you get that 22"? Locally?

Interested in a LCD monitor upgrade myself, preferably before the Christmas blitz sets in (already convinced the wife for us to get a 46" Sony Bravia @ $13K)
