I...think you forgot to add a link, judging from that last sentence.

But yeah, that budget made me rage, especially the property tax hike.

From what i read about in d budget presentation, their main focus was increasing government revenues, which has now become mandatory due to their frivolous spending habits. As of 2009, the government expenses severely outweighs their revenues, and as such, if they have to screw us all over to continue their ways, then they will.

I find it almost funny that a man say the eh make it easier for the poor man. First off suffice to say that the MAJORITY of this country is lower middle class to poor and yet as far as I recall it take a FRICKING MAJORITY to put a government in power... so doing the math since say 60% (which is prolly an underestimate) is lower to poor and it takes at ohh 50 or more % to elect them... i'd venture to say POOR PPL had a GREAT hand in putting these capitalists back in power. Anyways I digress... I was having this convo with a coworker about how the PNM is VERY good at what I refer to as LEGAL voter padding.

My example, I live in the La Romaine area which previously was San Fernando East or West I doh even remember now, it was part of a MARGNIAL seat. Last time I dipped my finger in INK I was OROPOUCHE North east or something... O_O WTF... did they just take part of a marginal seat and put it into a NON marginal seat? and wait how do you DO THAT? simple really move a couple THOUSAND ppl into LOW cost housing and you have JUST cause to redraw the electoral boundaries.

Notice that COP got what 20% of the TOTAL VOTES but failed to win a SINGLE SEAT? it's simple really, when you have INTELLIGENT ppl who want CHANGE and you spread them THIN, either by happenstance OR BY BRAIN CHILD INTENT what you do is ensure they can't do squat. And if ppl want to infer that I mean that stupid ppl voted for UNC and PNM, that's your choice.

That being said, I listened to VERY little or read very little (for the present) of the budget cause imho it's not going to change my situation any. So if it gets harder, it will BE HARDER WHETHER I watched that HORSE FACE @#$%& of a finanace minister with her smug grin (laughing all the way to clic..) the bank or otherwise won't make the price of food go down, it won't take those IDIOTS out of power and it won't stop this country from falling into RUIN.

I don't see why the 'poor' shoudl complain too much, they help put these ppl into power (not all admittantly, just MOST) and with Welfare... I mean CEPEP and URP LITERALLY GIVING AWAY MONEY, I mean, hey the government is QUITE gracious to the poor and of course the ubsurdely RICH.

Great is the PNM right?
We like it so right?

Not me.

PNM PNM PNM PNM PNM PNM PNM.....WE LIEK EEEEEEEEEEEETTT!!!! :D

Seriously though, election reform is needed desperately, in the sense that the Government should be elected not by a Seat majority, but by the popular vote. If I recall correctly, for the 18-18 deadlock, UNC had a greater number of votes overall...and yet, here we are with Father Pat and his cronies.

That's also another detail to be brought forward, however, I don't see any such legislation being put to pass unless it's another party in power. Pat has the country in his grip and he knows it.

That budget was not 'smart', but it is of the 'smart man' variety.
Consider that certain fees/penalties were raised to try and cover the shortfall in oil/gas revenue.

Imagine we still have the yoke of 'VAT' around our necks.  VAT was instituted by the then NAR gov't
as a way to recover money into the treasury that the self same PNM squandered in the 70s and 80s.  One of
the first things that budget should have eliminated is VAT.  With all the money gov't made in the past 7 years
we should not have had it still, but with the current level of squandermania, they have no choice but to keep it, and
raise other fees/taxes to be able to maintain that level of spending.

I can assure you, rapid rail still coming, so too is that monstrous waste of a Torouba stadium, about 5 desalination plant, Alutrint smelter, more water taxi, and the extravagant spending continues, even in the face of a recession, and inflation.

This PNM administration is the greatest...and most of you don't even realise, the timing of this budget was meant to deflect attention from the stalled Uff commision of enquiry, which, all of a sudden has been deemed 'illegal', because the gov't 'failed to gazette' it.  Wow.  How come NOBODY 'remembered' that one most important requirement? ??? Ridiculous.

...and you know what?  If Patos call election in the morning, the same poor sods who bawling now, will vote his sorry ass
BACK into power, especially with the UNC in disarray.

In short...we DOOMED.

Sweet TnT indeed. :(

would that really be better for the country? Give it some thought, would it be more beneficial to our country than our current system? I have some cons, would like to hear some pros.

One pro is that the people as a whole get to decide who wins, not by some cleverly arranged voter sections, aka constituencies.  More people voted for the UNC overall and yet they didn't win.  Clever aint it.

^^^ i honestly think that's more fair although we vote for different MPs, we still vote for one party. and who really votes for the Mp as an individual anyway. Vote padding through location would be canceled

...but then, building on what Laertes said, if any one party were able to manipulate a section of the
electorate, along ethnic lines, and that section were the majority, we would have a situation where
that party would always win where that ethnic majority was always available.

Thats a serious con right there.
