Afghanistan passes 'barbaric' law diminishing women's rights
« on: August 14, 2009, 11:12:27 AM »
This is so ridiculous, only man have rights over there yes.....

Quote
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/aug/14/afghanistan-womens-rights-rape

Afghanistan has quietly passed a law permitting Shia men to deny their wives food and sustenance if they refuse to obey their husbands' sexual demands, despite international outrage over an earlier version of the legislation which President Hamid Karzai had promised to review.

The new final draft of the legislation also grants guardianship of children exclusively to their fathers and grandfathers, and requires women to get permission from their husbands to work.

"It also effectively allows a rapist to avoid prosecution by paying 'blood money' to a girl who was injured when he raped her," the US charity Human Rights Watch said.

In early April, Barack Obama and Gordon Brown joined an international chorus of condemnation when the Guardian revealed that the earlier version of the law legalised rape within marriage, according to the UN.

Although Karzai appeared to back down, activists say the revised version of the law still contains repressive measures and contradicts the Afghan constitution and international treaties signed by the country.

Islamic law experts and human rights activists say that although the language of the original law has been changed, many of the provisions that alarmed women's rights groups remain, including this one: "Tamkeen is the readiness of the wife to submit to her husband's reasonable sexual enjoyment, and her prohibition from going out of the house, except in extreme circumstances, without her husband's permission. If any of the above provisions are not followed by the wife she is considered disobedient."

Hi there, woodyear. Looks like it's going to be one of these topics again. I'm just going to observe this one, though.

*sits down in topic and opens newspaper*
What can you do to end the hunger?
It's no surprise that many will die with the coming shortage of food
When there is no grain to feed the butchered cows
When there is nothing to feed yourselves...
Then you will see that money can't be eaten.

I read through all the other posts with regards to bias, other countries have it bad etc. but it really is terrible to be treated like that just because you are a woman. Not to say any other form of discrimination is bad, they all are. I just thought things in Afghanistan would have improved after the "liberation" from the Taliban, sadly this does not seem to be the case.

Hmm? No I actually didn't say anything of that.

Arrogant Husband: "Woman?!, where yuh?"
Hard working wife: "I am here Husband, what can I do for you?"
Arrogant Husband: "Pleasure me with your thumb and index finger NOW woman!!"
Hard working wife: "Yes sir"

ROFL!!! HAHAHAHA

Just so you all know, that law contradicts islam. So whenever you are ready to flame over the stupidity of the idiots in power there, please leave islam out of it

edit: anyway the shia/shi-ites known for pullin crap like that, so i am not surprised. Those are the guys who cut themselves with razors and say it was in the name of god. It seems like they readin from the same book which says to blow yourselves up! You cannot find that nonsense anywhere in the quran and authentic hadith, completely segregating those action from being islamic. As such, i am under no commitment to defend this action or 'educate' the masses of something that might seem uncomprehensible to a non-muslim, since these actions are non islamic.

And i know no one here mentioned islam, but i know some of you were thinking it. Because i was upon first reading it.

So if obama feels the need to redirect his military forces over there, then i can't agree more.

Its the stupidity of the idiots in power we are poking fun at, since obviously no common sense individual will ever pass a law like that...I don't think Woodyear's intention was to point a finger at Islam as a whole, just Karzai and his Gov't there...hence my Sarcastic Photo telling Woody to SHHHHHhh!!

Carry on...

AK's more convenient for them, the ammo more readily available

Yea, but you need something a little smaller to fit the woman hands...an AK have too much recoil...a P90 they can hide under their clothes when they ready to get busy on some A-holes...lol

When I see hamid karzai I LOST it, dread. Real funny.

Anyway. UG I'd like to have a talk with you. Don't need to be on board. PM's are good enough. It's about the same topic, however. Up for it?
