ATI with Nvidia as dedicated Physx Card
« on: August 31, 2009, 03:44:16 PM »
Its been a while since I've been here but I though I post this here since I don't know any other group of locals that'd be interested in this sort of things and might give actual feed back.

Anyway I finally got the 4870 I've been dreaming of for a year, I prefer AIT over Nvidia but I get the Nvidia card when they impress me,and I replace my old 8800GTX with. Out of good will I gave my bro the 8800 and he gave me his old 8400GS and I wanted to do something with it. Although Physx isn't all that big but having it enable does give some nice visual stimulation. Game I played that used physx like Scared 2, UT 3, Graw 2 and a game that I had downloaded while I was using the 8800 from the Nvidia site.

I was searching around and found this link where this guy tried it, I'm attempt it later today and see how it goes, maybe post some screens.

this was possible until nvidia recently stopped supporting the functionality with the latest drivers...

Also batman Arkham Asylum and resident evil 5 are heavily using physx, i guess this is a good way for nvidia to capitalize (somewhat) on profits.

I've not had to much luck so far, I've finally got fluid mark to run the benchs with hardware Physx but i cant see any performance increase, and NV control panel crashed when I open it. It's late atm so i'll continue this tomorrow.

maybe because ur using a crap 8400 as a physx card? think that maybe crippling ur phsyx performance. if you have time ask ur bro to use ur old 8800gtx for a sec and test it and see if there's any performance increase.

Nah d 8400 GS should definitely be the main problem. I waz using one before and it cyar do all dem physX calc properly. You really need a more powerful card, try at minimum ah 8600 GT. I wonder if anybody have one i could get meh hands on to do some testin....

seems like a helluva lot of effort to get physx. I wonder if the PS3 version of Batman will have the extra visuals?

I've got my old 8800GT but my board isn't SLI :(

Samurai, could you update your profile with your machines specs? curious to see what you're running.

I'm using the same card as you.

i dont believe ps3 will have the effects that physx will bring.

I myself enabled physx on my  ati card and despite the abysmal performance, there were quite a few effects that made a difference in gameplay, they arent visual per se, but in terms of interaction with the environment (destructable especially), fog, etc, it was definitely noteworthy (perhaps the most noteworthy application of physx to date)
