Nice excuses there Rage, but I think you know exactly what I'm getting at.

Like it or not...GTA 'invented' the genre, so every game released that's similar is bound to be compared.  Don't fool yourself into thinking that this game is so genre-defining.  Its just another addition in a sea of 'me too' sandbox style games that is ripping off GTA's core gameplay.  You may not like to hear that, so whatever.

I don't doubt that the game itself is great.  I'd just rather not play it.  I've played every GTA game from III onwards, and the bar has been set.

Nobody said that GTA didn't 'invent' the genre, but to call it a clone of the game is just not true. It's a sandbox game just like

GTA yes, but not a clone of it at all. Yuh could say something like that about Saints Row, but not Mafia. But say wha.

Your loss meng. Cap, Berserk and I will enjoy it for you. Mafia II, here we come!!!!!

For those interested, Mafia II is now available for acquisition.
No crack yet though.

I'm still finishing up the first one in the meantime =]

IGN's review

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/111/1114635p2.html

"7.0   Presentation
The story is interesting, and the chapters make it feel like you’re getting stuff done, but the pacing is a problem and the world – while vibrant – can feel rather empty.
7.5   Graphics
The lip syncing isn’t that hot, you’ll see framerate dips, and characters can seem wooden, but the world looks good and there’s a lot of detail.
8.5   Sound
The voice work and actual music from the time are great.
7.0   Gameplay
With a couple cool exceptions – lock picking, being a window washer, etc. -- this is a run of the mill third-person shooter. Nothing that’ll light your hair on fire with excitement.
7.5   Lasting Appeal
My first playthrough took just a bit more than 10 hours, but there are the Playboy centerfolds and wanted posters to double back for."

'Empty world'?

'Run-of-the-mill'?

I guess when you don't buy much games, everything you can acquire is 'great' right?

Someone send me the memo explaining just what 'my loss' is here.

Come now Rage...better dan dat.  My taste is questionable because of my dislike for a game that you happen to like?  Being a bit shallow in your assessment, don't you think?  Or are you one of those that think that I have a 'penchant for bashing games that don't suit my taste' too? :)  In fact...I never even said  that I disliked it...only that I'd rather not play it because it looks like just another GTA clone.

...and you know what?  That review there kinda bears out what I'm trying to say.  Granted, it may be just one gamer's opinion, but I think it paints a pretty good picture of what to expect. The PC version will just look a lot prettier, which isn't really saying very much.

As for SC2...I pretty much hate the genre.

...and don't worry...there will be lots of games coming out over the next year or so that I will most happily
BUY and enjoy...while waiting for Battlefield 3.....and it definitely won't be described as 'run-of-the-mill'.
Of that you can be sure.  :happy0203:

Well if you didn't notice, I'm not the only one that likes SC2. So best you throw that whole 'my taste is questionable

because of my dislike for a game that you happen to like' statement outta de window. And you say that the review

bears out what you were trying to say? Where exactly in that review do they say that they game's a GTA clone?

Come on man, better than THAT. And what's all the emphasis on the word buy? If I could afford to buy my games original,

I would. But until I get a new job, I'll have to settle for acquiring all my games for free. Sorry, but not all of us can

afford every console under the sun, a high end PC AND all games original. I'm not even touching Starcraft 2 till a save enough money to buy the game.

Nah man Arc, not kewl dude. :(

* sigh *

You're arguing semantics now.  You really expect reviewers to use the phrase 'GTA clone'?
Even that phrase itself is a cliche, just because of the sheer amount of em released.

That review that was quoted basically said 'GTA clone' without actually using the phrase.  Did anyone say
that that 'classification' was necessarily bad?  No. Again...in all caps this time: I PREFER NOT TO PLAY IT,
BECAUSE, IN MY OPINION, IT LOOKS LIKE JUST ANOTHER GTA CLONE.  No hate there.
You don't agree?  Fine.  I'm OK with that, but don't sit there and determine that my taste is now 'questionable'.

...but then, that's just your opinion. :)

I'll pretend I didn't read the other comments, because I'm discussing Mafia II.

You want the game to be good.  I get it.  I felt the same passion for Crysis, even when the reviews basically
said that the game was a big-ass tech demo and benchmarking suite, with a tacked-on story.

At this point, we'll have to agree to disagree, because you seem to want to make it a bigger deal than it is.

however that's not necessarily a good thing. game is a shadow of what was expected from general reviews.  from what ive played its ok, but not what I was expecting.

I really don't know why ppl on this site take things so seriously. so what if I said that your taste was questionable Arc?

I used the tongue emoticon to indicate that is WASN'T BEING SERIOUS. *sigh* and you say that I'm making a bigger

deal than it is? lol. anyway, you see one thing from that review, while i see something completely different. small ting yes.

I'm still looking forward to getting the game. for free of course. u wouldn't kno much bout that, is ah poor man ting (just had to push that in :happy0203:)

OK, I'm officially ignoring the ignorance spewing from the above member, cause things bordering on ridiculous.

After watching Gamespot's review, I still think that the game's worth a look. It doesn't seem as amazing as the original, but

definitely worth a look. Surprised Gametrailers haven't made a review vid for the game yet. I've always liked hearing what they

have to say.
