Well... i'll try to actually get tickets to see it in CC8 with 3D... do they give you the glasses?

Just like the other 3D cinemas, they give you a pair as you enter, and you have to drop it in a bin when you leave.

Uhhh, with swine flu going around, they reuse the glasses?? O_o EEWWWWW

OK, I just got back from seeing Avatar in IMAX 3D, and all I have to say is:

EPIC WIN!!!!! WTFOMGPWNED!!!! The absolute BEST movie I have seen in a LOOOOONG time.

IMAX 3D really does the movie justice. I for one will be seeing it again very soon with the wifey and I am sure she will love it. Great job Mr Cameron! EPIC MOVIE FULL OF EPIC WIN! I don't agree with Wyatt's point that there was too much lovey dovey stuff in the forest, I believe it was well planned that way so that you feel connected to the Navi as you learn about their ways through the lessons being taught to the crippled marine in the Avatar. I loved every minute of the movie and would recommend it to everyone if they have not all seen it yet. Its a shame T&T has no IMAX to really appreciate the film in all it's glory.

WOW! just WOW!.....

I don't like lovey dovey stuff either but I really didn't find this movie had all that much. I was captivated from beginning to end.

I didn't feel connected to sh!t! lol

The man is a turncoat. plain and simple.

Taken from Wiki: A turncoat is a person who shifts allegiance from one loyalty or ideal to another, betraying or deserting an original cause by switching to the opposing side or party

James Cameron's: Turncoat. Would have been a more fitting name for that movie oui.

That said, it's still making waves at the theater's locally.

I dragged the misses to see Sherlock Holmes last night (Boss movie btw, 9/10!) and MovieTowne was overrun with people now coming to see Avatar. Flowing out into the streets. All time slots sold out. wtf??? As if the movie launch this week.

Heard from peeps in the line that it was sold out in Trincity as well.

lol...Avatar is showing up as a likely candidate at this time to beat out Titanic for the box-office record, simply because demand has yet to fall. It has a near-unprecedented drop in its' 2nd weekend of less than 3%, and set a record for 2nd weekend box office gross, beating back The Dark Knight.

This is one of those movies that may have a bit of staying power...the next 2 weeks would be critical though.

I'm waiting till following week to take it in 3D again...

Also, to Wyatt, he may be a turncoat, but he's a turncoat to the movement that most people would feel is 'right', therefore would gain more support than opposition to his move.

Dunno bout most people but I'd find it hard to kill my own people in order to preserve the homeland of aliens.

Well if you feel more at home with the aliens than your own people, what would you choose?

Plus, he only had to kill his own because they refused to compromise.

and refusing to compromise with aliens is grounds for killing your own race?

As I recall, the aliens refused to compromise as well.

Isn't that making him a bit hypocritical? I'm all for hugging trees but come on.

I could understand if he made a strong argument against the invasion (which he did)
I could understand if he refused to take part in the attack
but I struggle with turning the knife on your own people. Isn't that going too far? Becoming the very thing you hate?

As mentioned earlier, I would have left out that whole inter-racial lovey dovey-ness and kept it Human vs Navi. Full scale war over real estate. (Just like old times)
Ain't nothing "grey" about that but I know James wanted to put something in there for everyone. A lil love, lil drama, lil comedy, lil action....so say what, everybody get a bligh.

Avatar was a good vehicle for new technology with a simple, derivative easy to follow storyline with enough hackneyed depth so to stimulate the mental faculties of the average movie going audience and to give it enough substance to not be all flash and high-action fervor.

No one will be talking about it next year beyond how much money it made.
What can you do to end the hunger?
It's no surprise that many will die with the coming shortage of food
When there is no grain to feed the butchered cows
When there is nothing to feed yourselves...
Then you will see that money can't be eaten.

Cha Ching!

http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2010/01/03/box-office-avatar-soars-past-1-billion-worldwide/

Quote
Box Office Report: 'Avatar' is No. 1 again, soars past $1 billion worldwide

Thanks to astronomic word-of-mouth, inflated 3-D ticket prices, and consecutive holiday weekends that began on a Friday, Avatar continued its seemingly unstoppable climb to the Hallelujah Mountains of U.S. and global box office. According to estimates from Hollywood.com Box Office, James Cameron’s sci-fi opus grossed $68.3 million over New Years weekend, a tiny 10 percent drop from Christmas weekend for a $352.1 million domestic total — easily the biggest third weekend in the U.S. ever (2002’s Spider-Man had held the record with $45 million). Much more impressively, in just 17 days, Avatar has surpassed $1 billion in global box office. To put that in perspective, it took The Dark Knight pretty much its entire theatrical run just to make it to that milestone. (Another landmark: $66.4 million of Avatar’s worldwide total is from IMAX theaters, a record for the mega-screen format.)

Avatar wasn’t the only film to ring in the new year with serious box-office bounty, either. Sherlock Holmes sleuthed out an elementary $38.4 million for second place, a 41 percent drop for $140 million total. Hot on its heels, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel chirped to $36.6 million, dropping just 25 percent for $157 million total and third place. (So what will the inevitable third film be called? The Second Squeakquel? The Threakquel?) It’s Complicated fell a bite-sized 15 percent, cooking up $18.7 million for fourth place and $59.1 million total. And in fifth place, The Blind Side actually improved upon its total last week, rising 8 percent for $12.7 million and $209.1 million total. (As EW noted yesterday, this means star Sandra Bullock is the only actress ever to have a film marketed on her star power alone pass $200 million in U.S. box office.)

In fact, with no major debuts to steal away fresh audiences, it was simply a fabulous weekend to be in movie theaters, period. Up in the Air pitched down an imperceptible 3 percent with $11.3 million and $45 million total. The Princess and the Frog hopped up 11 percent with $10 million and $86 million total. Even certified turkey Did You Hear About the Morgans? was up 4 percent, bringing in $5.2 million for a (still woeful) $25.6 million total.

Overall, the top ten box office was up 70 percent from last year, when Marley and Me was barking its way into filmgoers’ hearts.
