Games w/o online component should definitely cost less than a game that does. Even so, the mp better be kicka$$. I'm certainly not paying $50us if it doesnt meet that criteria....again...damn Crysis.

Rage, are you saying a game that took 2-3 years to create (Say a Game of The Year title like Morrowind for example) is not worth $400.00 because it does not have a multiplayer / online component and no replayability?

That's a scary thought for the people who worked so hard to bring a master piece single player game to market. Let's hope you're in the minority for their sake.

Don't get me wrong, I don't care much for single players games myself but on the other hand, if I'm not gonna buy them I'm not gonna pirate them nor encourage others to do so.

Personally, a game is not a necessity. If it's not worth buying, it's not worth pirating. So many games and so little time as is.

To El Capitan......and what about a game with an online component and single player component? should those cost even less as well? (savage, hon, Savage 2, bf1942, quake 3, etc...)

lol

It all depends on where the user sees the value.

A shallow attempt @ generalization follows:

Gamer A: Loves multiplayer competition. Couldn't care less about single player. He's won 1000 games of starcraft scrims but never played through the campaign.

Gamer B: Single player is his passion. Not keen on the competitive multiplayer scene. Will give up a kidney for a killer story line and plot.

Gamer C: A mix of both A and B. Appreciates good character development and story and is still eager to hone his craft on a human opponent after playing through the campaign.

Those maybe genre specific. Applicable moreso to FPS and RTS games. Obviously sports and RPGs present an entirely different scenario.

Very true

Personally, a game is not a necessity. If it's not worth buying, it's not worth pirating. So many games and so little time as is.

To me games are an expensive luxury. And as a developer myself, i am telling you that game developers deserve every penny they charge. But, unfortunately, this luxury is not affordable to all. Its not just about being cheap, its that you love games, but you can't afford to pay 50 bucks for a game. What then? Should you not play it because you can't afford the legitimate game? I'm just sayin...

I am a single player man myself, and games has really taken a back seat to responsibilities. Almost every game i acquire, i barely manage to get halfway through anyway, so no point in buying. However, there are a few gems out there that if you can spare some dollars, you should.  COD MW2, Bioshock 2, Batman, NFS Shift, thats almost 2 grand in games. Seriously....seriously! lol. How d hell i gettin that past my wife! ???

UltimateGamer........you my friend took the words right out of my mouth. Couldn't have put it better myself. Under all seriousness, if I could afford to buy all my games original, I honestly would buy them, but being an unemployed, soon-to-be college student doesn't help things one bit. I mean it's either I acquire these games from my usual sources or I don't play them at all. Asking for money to buy them original isn't even in the question. Doh feel cause ah have a high end PC that ah swimming in finds yuh kno. Quite the opposite. lol. I need my fix man!!!

sometimes scarcity brings value.

Ultimate, like you just said....you're not even playing through those games.

Imagine instead, if you bought just the few games you were REALLY interested in, that got rave reviews and acclaim?

You'd quite likely play those out with the precious time available.

As opposed to wading through tons of pirate games that you acquire just because the torrent is there.

Rage, games are pretty damn affordable nowadays, especially for PC gamers thanks in no small part to STEAM. You'll get no sympathy saying you can't afford a US$20.00 for a top notch PC title. That's TT$120.00, delivered direct to your PC. No hack/crack required. Online ready.

No excuse. Wash 3 cars in the neighbourhood and boom, you got the $$.

No credit card? No problem. Get a Republic VTM hassle free.

lihixxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You don't have to take my advice. To each his own, but for all reading, just a gentle reminder that we don't advocate piracy. If you couldn't afford to buy a car and went out and stole one, would you go announcing it on a forum?

Sorry noob but i am one who advocates that piracy ain't stealing, its mass sharing. When you steal something from someone, they lose it/have no access to it, compared to when you pirate something, they still have it, we just have it as well.

However, i am all for forum rulez and personal opinions as to the non-advocacy of piracy, so you won't hear it from me.

As for this little number
Ultimate, like you just said....you're not even playing through those games.

Imagine instead, if you bought just the few games you were REALLY interested in, that got rave reviews and acclaim?

You'd quite likely play those out with the precious time available.

If i do really feel like i would play a game and totally enjoy it, and i do have the financial means, I would buy it. Remember i said that, but drawing from my example of the 4 titles within the next 2 months, do you have 2G lying around to buy them, because i don't. And i really don't feel like missing out on any of them. What say you, save and buy one and forget the rest? Would you do that, personally?

Personally?? Yes. I've done that for years. Starting with Atari, through SNES (games were TT$600 a pop, and I'm talking 15 years ago when $600.00 was REAL money) all through current times.

Currently doing that with consoles as well. (Bought a Wii first...bought a PS3 a year later.....hoping to get the 360 this year....) None are modified, all games are original. Most from JK Entertainment.

lol, don't apologise to me for your "mass sharing", I am not a game developer (thankfully)

On my PC I've only got legit titles, 90% from STEAM.  You get some great deals and discounts practically every weekend. Makes it very affordable to do the right thing. Running Windows 7 RC. Down to the OS is clean, lol

Besides, I'm sure you don't have time to play all 4 at the same time. What's the harm in getting one a month?

I'm happy to see so many people going above board with their gaming. It helps the industry and who knows, maybe one day they'll recognise the caribbean as a legitimate market instead of saying we're just a bunch of pirates and treating us with scant courtesy.

If you must pirate a game...especially if you play it the whole way through, you should eventully buy it. Looking at aquisition as a way to get an extended demo of the game sounds like a decent compromise.

on a slightly off topic notion, I am surprised we don't see more trading/loaning of games in the trading grounds.

More so for single player titles with little replayability.

Batman would be a prime candidate.

hmm...maybe that's something we could highlight in the community, loaning games.

Should be ok for single players games once you've beaten them. Though I could still see some peeps getting anal if their disc gets lost/scratched.

Can't hurt to try though, will start a thread. Might make it easier for some peeps to avoid the "peg leg parrot on shoulder" approach to gaming. lol

If you've got 4 friends and each one buys a game a month. That's 4 games that could be passed around. Most single player games are what? 10 - 20 hours to complete nowadays?

Just might work.

JK still rents games for 360/PS3/Wii.

$250 to join, $150 a month. Once the game is in the store it can be rented.

You can keep the game for the entire month or bring it back whenever within the month and take something else for the flat fee. I used to rent sometime ago when I actually had the time to play more than 1hr a day.

lol. Yeah boy arc.....we talking game of the year material here and men ready to let loose microtorrent on it already in broad daylight.

sorry for the minor highjack, but this thread gonna get super high visibility

Something like a single player game library might be a good angle to take. Instead of just donating games, free to good home, they could pool them in one library for all members to benefit.

but yeah, definitely discussion for a separate thread. I'll prune the posts to keep this one clean and merge em when the new thread is up.

Uh, you may not be stealing from the other torrent users but you are stealing from the developer's and producers of the game who need sales to continue being in business and make more games. So IT IS STEALING.

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.
