wrong again

As we have proven time and time before, customs is a fickle beast.

They can very well take that same monitor and charge you vat and duty under the label of "LCD TV"

In which case, the math becomes decidedly skewed in our favour.

Add a whopping 35% to your equation.

It is a very decent price.

Don't hate, congratulate.

  Believe me...I of all people would know just how fickle.

Once it doesn't say TV anywhere on the box, you golden.
As someone who has imported LOTs of monitors, I'm pretty sure Customs has NEVER mistaken a MONITOR for a TV.  Usually, it's the other way around.

This is experience talking here.  Order it from Amazon and save yourself some duckets eh...

I'm all for supporting local business...but we live in a world of Amazon and Ezone...I ain't toleratin DAT.

nah man, I've seen it happen.

Gopaul luck is not seepaul luck.

Not to mention, the hassle of shipping the unit back to the states if you get a doa monitor or dead pixels. Some people will value the local warranty over the meager savings.

All things considered, that link Berserk posted will be very hard to beat and It should qualify as a sweat deal.

Give the man some slack. lol

If someone could find a sweeter local option, now THAT would put a different spin on things.

exactly. It is a good deal.

but when people read some of the comments on here, wow....you get the impression that Cariszone is robbing people with that epicly priced Asus monitor.

That is an injustice to them and potential buyers.

I would spend my own money on such a monitor and be happy to give the local economy some circulation at that price.

Without hesitation.

Arc knows I am a man to my word on that score.

You're effectively paying them about $350 just for the convenience of importing it for you.

True but if the warranty/after sales service offered makes the extra money worthwhile then it is indeed a worthy deal.

However i think that site only offers a 7 day DOA return so the above may not apply.

Wyatt...

Notnice ordered that SAME LCD through me.. Paid $260USD for it.. and then 75USD to clear.
$2160.50TTD

Thanks I will be sticking with my skybox. Still supports local by paying for the clearing from a local company that brought it in for me.

Carizone advertises on GATT so it should be no surprise to anyone why wyatt is defending them.

Personally, the times I called them about stuff they have listed on their website, every time they said there's none in stock and it will take 1.5 weeks. I find it extremely difficult to find a reason to do business with them when I could get stuff in myself quicker and cheaper.

But everybody have to eat ah food out here. Choose for yourself.

lol

Chiney, I have ordered several monitors myself for customers that have landed even cheaper than that.

Doesn't change the fact that 1) customs could charge you hot and negate the savings

2) the monitor could arrive with dead pixels or worse and then you have to ship it back yourself (negating savings)

3) no one has yet to post a cheaper "local" option.

As far as deals go, I still stand by zerk's post....it is a sweet one and doesn't deserve the fight down.

I find a lot of us are a little to quick to attack the local scene without consideration for their own people. Crab in barrel attitude.

Local companies have different economics to deal with so naturally their price will not beat Amazon / Newegg.

However, if they can offer me a price reasonably close to one abroad, I have no issue supporting them.

Conversely, they have no issue supporting us (as Awesome pointed out....cariszone has been a long standing sponsor)

Not sure we will see Amazon or NewEgg sponsoring a GATT event anytime soon.

Carry on smartly.

Who can draw a crab in barrel meme for me boy?

Okay that pic is kinda disturbing lol.

I've gotten burnt with importing a monitor already, had to pay duty.

If the savings were significant I'd try ordering one online again.

The last 2 monitors I bought locally were not that much more than if I had ordered online and paid for shipping. As wyatt said it is more the convenience/warranty factor.

I'd say that is the exception though, for anything else tech related I order through captain interwebs.

Monitors and cases are two examples of items that can easily be purchased locally without crying a river.

'Crab in a barrel' has nothing to do with this.  I disagree TW...a LOT.  Your logic here escapes me.

Wouldn't you rather spend less money if you could help it?
I don't know why we trinis are sometimes so eager to throw money away for the sake of 'convenience'.

I have to 'attack' local merchants simply because our eyes have been opened to the fact that they overcharge us ridiculously for electronic items.
In some cases it's truly outrageous.

Case in point: I'm looking for a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0...
In some cases I've seen local prices as high as $3500...for ONE...and as 'low' as $1700.
Guess what?  The actual price is $179 US, which isn't even $1200.  Why should I pay a local merchant that extra $500...especially if in some cases they have to order it for me?   =/

Not doing it.  No sir.
My own money should not be cutting my ass.

Sorry wyatt.. again..makes no sense there.

As arc said... spending "extra" for convenience is not a reason to spend more money..never is... never will be.

Bad points to bring across in a discussion like this bro. So far all I have heard is that I rather spend more because I can, because I dont want to order and wait for skybox and clearing it.

Nope. Not even close to making sense.

I guess it comes down to your experience. Had a bad one the first time I brought in a monitor so didn't bother ordering others online. Maybe next time if I find a sweet deal online I'd try again. That said I'd never buy a tablet in trinidad.

Exactly.

Woody has hit the nail on the head.

Gopaul luck is not seepaul's luck. I said it before.

But let me break it down for Arcman and Chiney real slow and basic like so they can understand.

Fact #1: People have imported items and were charged duty and vat (even when they should not have been)

Fact #2: People have imported items and they arrived defective

Fact #3: Local vendors face different economics to NewEgg and Amazon, so their prices will never be LESS (not withstanding a clearance sale or such)

Fact #4: Local vendors sponsor and support GATT. (Very unlikely that Amazon / NewEgg will do the same. If GATT does not support local vendors then the "crab in barrel" attitude applies.

Let me break down the crab in barrel analogy so you guys can understand it as well. If the crabs all worked together...many of them would be able to escape the barrel......however, if the crabs are only concerned with their own personal escape and ignore the plight of the others around them, the majority of them will languish in the barrel.

So to further nail the point....if a staff member like berserk, is promoting what he sees as a great local deal by a local vendor (cariszone)....he is helping that crab out of the barrel......and when Cariszone sees success and is profitable, they will in turn sponsor GATT events and also help us out of the barrel.

If another Staff member like Arcmanov, says Cariszone is robbing people...and that their price is outrageous....people won't buy from Cariszone, the company fails (sinks into the bottom of the barrel) and now they won't be able to sponsor GATT events (and we also sink into the bottom of the barrel)

I have yet to see someone suggest a better local price for an excellent monitor as Zerk posted. Until then, I still very much consider it a sweet deal and maintain that it should not be maligned by others as "robbery".

This especially applies to items like Cases, Monitors, etc....where local prices are viable. I have bought many in Trinidad as opposed to Amazon / NewEgg, so this is not just cheap talk. Leading by example here. Arc himself knows I just bought a monitor from him. Always been one to support the local scene as best I can.

Carry on smartly.

Surely you jest.

I'll pretend I didn't see that thinly veiled implication that I'm somewhat daft.  :laughing7: (as is you)

My intention was not to malign anything...merely to highlight what I believe to be unfavourable, especially in light of the ecosystem that we as consumers now live in.

However, I do believe, rather strongly, that local merchants should be called out, regardless of affiliation.

I had this same issue with JK Entertainment, and you presented this same defence.

How do you know it won't make them reconsider their prices?  Local pricing reeks of an attitude that suggests that merchants feel as if local consumers don't have internet access, and by extension, totally ignorant of the actual retail prices of electronic items.

At the end of the day, everyone can make up their own mind if it's a 'sweet deal' or not...it's your money.

We shall have to agree to disagree on this one.  Respectfully of course.   :)
