I cud vouch for the cpu, pristine condition - the man realize he got one of those boards that aren't back-compatible with AM2+ after he bought the board...and i was there to laugh and then cry coz i cud use a quad core but i brokes...

I find it strange that you didn't notice that it only suports DDR3 ram in the specs, cause that is the exact board I got for my new rig

I cyar complain one bit, everyting wukkin sweet. It have so much ports for ting to plug in on the rear panel it aint even funny lol.

The quality of the builtin sound on the board is truly impressive.

Hands down that board gets a 5 star rating from me. Unless you really have something in particular you want to do i.e. SLI setup or HDMI port this board have almost everything you want yes.

Instead of going through all the hassle to sell CPU and/or motherboard, wouldn't it have been easier
to just sell whatever DDR2 RAM you have and get some DDR3?

That board/CPU is a killer combo as is. I say keep both and sell your RAM.

If the board supported AM2/AM2+ processors I would have done exactly that.

Keep the mobo, sell the rest. AM3 vs. AM2+. We've had this discussion many times already.

OK, I'm confused. The CPU that you have there...what does the blue sticker say?
Does it say 'Socket AM2/AM2+' or 'Socket AM3'?

If it says Socket AM3 then it WILL work on that motherboard. If it says Socket AM2/AM2+,
then I say sell the CPU. I consider it a retrograde step to 'go back' to AM2 when you have an AM3 board there.
I suppose you have DDR2 RAM already, so you may not have any choice but to sell the motherboard.

It seems you put yourself in quite a pickle here.

The phenom II 940 is an AM2+ processor, if you are interested check your motherboard spec to see if it supports Phenom II 125Watt processors.
Some mobo manufacturers like MSI have bios upgrades to run the AM2+ Phenom II processors.

I already have an AM2+ motherboard. A MSI K9A2-CF, which I'm currently using with
an AM3 CPU.

If you want, I could offer that motherboard to you as a trade for your Gigabyte board.
Of course, I'll pay the difference.

That way, you can get a board that can use that X4 with your DDR2 RAM (I updated it to the latest BIOS),
and I can also have a board that uses my X3.
