The Razer Destructor...
« on: May 31, 2009, 12:32:11 AM »
So I recently got my hands (literally) on a Microsoft Sidewinder X8 gaming mouse, and was slighly miffed to discover
that I now have some slight tracking issues on the Dell mousepad I love so much.  You know, the ones that come
with any new Dell desktop PC.

I am now actively looking at acquiring a 'proper' gaming-grade mousing surface.

Any recommendations?

Moving right along...

Looking long and hard at the Razer Destructor...

Space is limited, and this baby is about 2mm thick.  Comes with its own carrying case too.
Perfect for the LAN-party environment.

My suggestion for one, with a little extra pizzaz to it, the Cyber Snipa Tracer pad...works well for FPS gaming for certain...and it's not overly large (305x230x5mm). I've had no problems with it while I owned it. Not too expensive, and the material for the surface would certainly last a VERY long time.

If you used a Sidewider X8, you wouldn't ask that.  Seriously.

it just doesn't make sense to me to pay upwards of $600 for a mouse, only to have to spend $400 more for a mousepad. i just think it's a waste of money. but, it's not like you would have known about the tacking issues before hand so....

hey rage, that rangers celtic avatar is epic!!

Wha kinda mouse/pad is that homie?  A Sidewinder X8 is 72 US, and the Razer pad I lookin at is
35 US.  I could justify the cost, because I play a LOT of FPS games on my PC, so precision control
is necessary.  Its not like I'm buying one every month.

As for the recommendations put forward.  Saxman's example is laughably cheap, but its too 'thick'.
Remember, I'm using one of those computer desks with slide-out keyboard tray.  My keyboard actually
has to sit on part of the mousepad.

As for the Cyber Snipa...I'm tempted, but its made of 'acrylic glass'.  Dunno how that will fare.
It seems a wee bit too big for my keyboard tray, and it might be a lil too thick as well.

Good choice though.

With the acrylic glass, basically, it's a case of "don't drop it from a height". It's very sturdy (I once rested my Armor case on it by accident, all the weight applied through one of the case feet directly onto the pad, and didn't get so much as a scratch).

If that one would be too big, then most of the Razer offerings will be as well.

If anything, since you mentioned that the keyboard would be resting on top of part of the pad, how about this one? A bit smaller, definitely more reasonable, and very thin as well. Only issue is that it arrives rolled up, so you'd have to flatten it out over time...

I actually started checking out those Steelseries pads at first, but then found out that the X8
doesn't particularly like them because of the cloth-weave.

I think I'll go with the Destructor.  When I get it I'll update this thread with my experience.

Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Got my Destructor today, and promptly laid it down to start mousing...

My GOD this thing is great.  ALL tracking issues have evaporated.
If you own a gaming-grade laser mouse, especially a wireless one, this pad is THA SHIZNT!!!

I've actually had to lower the DPI I currently mouse/game at to compensate for the increased performance.

GREAT stuff.
