Not the first time, won't be the last.
ATI and Nvidia have been playing this cat and mouse game for years.
The $250 price point is a very interesting one and it speaks to sensible buyers. Those not willing to go for broke on the latest and greatest card.
It's an important segment. I'd expect to see a lot of warring over it.
Just read this interesting article from Anandtech:
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3539&p=1They recommend the 4890 at lower resolutions (1920x1200 and below) Imagine that, 1920x1200 and the term "lower resolution" in the same sentence! The world has gone mad.
That is my sweet spot though, so based on their review, the ATI get's the nod.
It was also very interesting to see the side by side video of Mirrors Edge showing the benefit of the Physx engine. Not show stopping, but something I'd appreciate. Nod to Nvidia.
Another side note, seems you've got to be on Beta drivers for the ATI card to match the 275. Using the stable drivers, it gets a cutarse.
In conclusion, the cards are close enough in performance that either will be a welcome addition to a PC near you. That, is a good thing. Choose your poison, red or green. lol
