^ ^ YUP

AMD release dey official 10.3 drivers:

http://downloads.guru3d.com/ATI-Catalyst-10.3-Windows-7-%7C-Vista-(64-bit)-download-2508.html#download

And amd prices will still drop, not TOO worried bout that.
what i worried bout is d next leap in graphics tech, if nviida dont pull ah rabbit out dey ass, amd wont feel compelled to take it to d next level.

AMD did there part with d 48s, and 5000 series.
Time for nvidia to step it up ah notch, and conitue dis rapid progression in gpu development.

D games to go with this will be nice as well :)

Yall know the 5xxx is NOT a successor to the 4xxx? from an architecture point of view? the 5xxx is akin to Nvidia's GTX2xx being a single LARGE monolithic design? imagine that... so the 6xxx may be the real successor to the 4xxx. I'll see if I can find the article where they explain this... basically it started on the 5xxx since the 2xxx which was their first attempt at many small cores vs. 1 large one.

Nvidia sorta blew it here IMO for the 6 month wait, to release a card which is 10 to 15% faster than the 5850 / 5870 which is so so (They did have 6 months of looking a the competitions product in action), but then at that price and the fact that the 480 is drawing more power and producing more heat than faster dual gpu cards (160 degrees Fahrenheit just by playing a game! not even Furmark or something like that)  :violent5:

we will see what the next move is from ATI, don’t see any reason for them to drop prices, but who knows, then there is still the 5970 and the refresh of the 58xx 2GB version coming out, i think Nvidia might be playing the catch-up game for some time.

I think Nvidia will be fine once they dont screw up the next die shrink , Fermi offers slightly more advanced architecture than the ATI 58xx which will be useful 2-3 years down the line. Assuming the next die shrink allows them to halve their die size they  should be able to release full 512 shader cards  with 256bit bus for 200-250 US  at around 270mm2 die size (9600gt was 240mm2) .
on the high end they should be able to offer a card maybe 80% faster than the currant GTX480 , with around 768 stream processors at about 400mm2 and  hopefully clocked around 900mhz core  2 ghz shaders  .

My math is 512 * 1.5 ( 50% increase in shaders) *900mhz =  691200 , which when divided by 480*700 = 2.05 times the theoretical performance.
So all Nvidia has to do is shrink  and tweak fermi in time to compete with ATI's next batch of cards. I think the Fermi architecture will remain mostly unchanged for the next 2 years or so , on paper it is very advanced .
ATI on the other hand will keep adding features to compete .

Guru3d Review, have your fill.

FAIL! in my opinion, and d 2 years somebody say its going to take nvidia to get fermi where it needs to be, what u think ati going to be doing during dem 2 years? lol, well i HOPE dey not going to be doing what nvidia did, and sit down on their ass and get dey skin cut.

Time will tell how it all plays out.

Looking at the benchmarks, ATI 5870 win some, but d 480 win d majority, mostly by 10fps in most cases, but if u guys look, at d 2560*1600 resolution, dat difference is all but gone. both cards are basicaly the exact same performance at that res.

If nvidia had come in at ah lower asking price, it would have been ah no brainer, but at 500$ with more power draw, and just 10fps increase @ 1920 and no fps increase @ 2560. errr, FAIL!

And dey even get beat in some games, and 3dmark vantage.
Amd 5870 prices already start to fall, and if dey do ah official price cut, and ah refresh with 5890, i realy really sorry for nviida, and us. COME BETTER DAN DAT NVIDIA!

All the bench marks show the same thing, at lower rez the cards are faster but 10-15%, as the rez goes up the advantage drops to 0% about 2560, not to mention that in Vantage there is no difference. Now add the heat and power draw, Nvidia right now is in epic fail mode as ATI will probably drop prices, I got my 5850 for $269 and it will probably drop back to around that, maybe ati will drop the 5870 to $300 and release the 2 g version at $399 and own fermi.

All I will say is EPIC FAIL NVIDIA

On another note, I did some digging, the test temps of the 480 on full load hit 94c with a 21c ambient, here with 31c average temps that means it will be hitting about 103-104c under load, with a 105c temp throttle limit, this is bad news unless you have AC and a huge lasco blowin on the case, or water cooling. I can already see 2nd of April ATI announcing the 5xxx refresh with higher clocks ( like 5860 running at 875mhz for $300 and 5875 with 950 or 1050 core clocks for $400 ) and 2g versions, if not even a new 6xxx series respin. I don't think they were thinking right with this, see if fermi was a same price, similar temp and power usage chip getting the 10-15% advantage hell ya ATI wipe but as it is now, considering T&T temps I will have to post and say

WARNING, FERMI TEMPS TO RISKY IN OUR CLIMATE!!!

nuff said.

Do take this warning to heart to as we saw what happened with presshot here, can happen with Fermi here to.

ATI is going to do what dey did with d 4000, u going to see 5890, and 5990 cards, with more ram/higher clocks. Then the current cards going to drop a little and the refresh cards will take up their predecessor's price space.

Ati's 5750 and 5770 have EXCELENT temparatures, very very good, with good work like that, nvidia is really dropping the ball with fermi, Nvidia underestimated ati, and got caught with their pants down. Not to mension the many problems that faced them to even push 480 out the door, poor yeilds etc.
Right now nvidia is going to rely on game partners, and marketing to keep them in the game. But unless they do a total refresh, ATI will hold the crown.

I have no loyalty, whoever is d best at d time, dies who i going with. Nvidia, get off your high horse , stop sticking, and get to work.

NVIDIA Announces GTX 580
« Reply #59 on: March 31, 2010, 10:33:17 PM »
Quote
Less than a week after the launch of the GTX 480, NVIDIA has announced that the next series of graphics cards based on the Fermi architecture is already in the works - the 500 Series. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 will be the first to launch and will feature 580 CUDA cores to go along with its "580" moniker and have a whopping 2560MB of 384-bit GDDR5 memory. The rest of the specifications are unknown at this time, but NVIDIA is promising the fastest single-GPU card on the market.

"Although we're very proud of the GTX 480," NVIDIA President and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said, "the 400 series is merely a tease for what Fermi can really accomplish. When we release the 500 series later this year, I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised."

After the rather lukewarm reception of the GTX 480, this is certainly welcome news to fans of NVIDIA. Even more welcoming is that the GTX 580 is expected to launch before the end of the year. In fact, Huang said that he's hopeful it'll be on the market by this summer. But what about a price? A separate NVIDIA source who will remain anonymous for obvious reasons let us in on a little secret - the GTX 580 will launch with the GTX 480's current price. The best part of that tidbit may be the obvious implication - a price drop on the 400 series! So if you're in the market for a new video card, it may be wise to wait until the summer...if you can hold off that long.

http://www.overclockersclub.com/news/26376/

580 to launch later this year.

*translates from bs to english*

580 to launch in spring 2013.
