That's the one

Made a promise/new years resolution to beat some of my existing game library before purchasing any others. So xcom and dragon commander will have to wait. (for now)

Xcom is the kind of game that makes you forget about the rest of your gaming library. its my Dota 2.

Ah yes...the compulsive collector's lament: http://kotaku.com/were-buying-more-pc-games-than-we-can-play-1493402988  :laughing7:

My backlog not as bad as some, but it is there, which is why I didn't really buy many full titles this sale (only Just Cause 2 and MGS: Revengeance).  I mostly bought discounted DLC.

That article is perfectly timed.

Like Messiaah said, I swear these people pulling together articles from GATT's sub conscience yes. lol

Been musing over the same scenario for weeks.

2014 is the year of change though, backlog begone!

you weren't kidding.....13 steam machines announced

GOT DAMN!!!

Begun, the steam wars has.

I'm stoked. The variety is mind blowing.

One is even close to the price point I was trying to achieve for my steam machine vs xbox one comparison. Weighing in at a reasonable $599.00

Specifically, this unit from Zotac: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/01/07/ces-heres-the-steam-machine-from-zotac

Should alleviate concerns from some who thought a steam machine for cheap wasn't viable.

There's actually a machine for 500$ floating around somewhere that I saw on my news feed.

What I looking at these for is a nice HTPC (running windows of course :alughing7:)

If it cheaper to buy one of those steam machines than build it myself, that would be a worth while application.

Them + 1500$ machines go fail and fail hard.

The cheaper ones is what go matter. And also depends on games. But if u fling windows on it, that go alleviate the game library issue immediately.

Me personally, don't need no set of power for my living room gaming, cause it go only be things like Rayman and coop type stuff etc. Once it can do that and xbmc I good.

brilliant find. +1

And you know why the consoles need to be concerned about this??? Besides the fact that there are attacks from not one but several angles (like Iphone vs the world of android)....these steam machines are just getting better......

year after year...their specs will improve and become more powerful.

While the consoles specs are traditionally locked in for five years plus.

I CANNOT WAIT

(which is why I went ahead and built my own, lol)

Yea, consoles need to be concerned. PC market is fine.

This actually is going to help bolster the PC market. If you notice, most vendors already providing dual booting options (smart). If steam OS buss, no problem, the machines already running windows, just carry on.

It's a nice move whiles mitigating risk of steam OS failing. How they pushing it, it wont matter really if steam OS succeeds or not, because its a pc they building in living room form factors.

I still don't believe in steam OS. But I believe in the form factor, marketing, and concept. If only gabe wasn't bullish against MS, they could have made a lot of money together.

Good times ahead regardless. We go see how it goes. And I go be ready to build my mgr come April. Hopefully an affordable steam machine available by then. If not, ill just build my own.

Spec-wise, and bang-for-buck-wise, the Cyberpower gets my vote...

http://www.destructoid.com/cyberpowerpc-s-customizable-steam-machine-starts-at-499-268523.phtml

Pretty good specs for the $499 price point.
I want to know what PSU in in these things though.

Again...you DO get what you pay for.  At $900, my MGR will still run RINGS around BOTH Cyberpower configurations,
and it's still several orders of magnitude more upgradeable too.

Still, it's a step in the right direction. At $499, it's still more powerful than a PS4/Xbone.  More versatile too.  After all, it's still a PC.  :)

^^ That's d only appealing thing to me about these steam machines. Obviously the marketing push will help PC gaming a lot. But for me personally. The Chassis is what it's all about. Once those chassis are made readily available go the general consumer, is gg no re. You'll be able to build a sexy mgr that have the performance u want, and upgradability u want, and still look like ah nice neat console tucked next to your Xbox/receiver/etc.

Pair that with the Logitech Dinovo Mini: (Which I currently using as my living room keyboard)

And an Xbox 360 (Soon to be Xbox One) Controller. And is GG.
