I've not felt the need to go past my 4gb rig to be honest and it is good to have some scientific research to justify not making the move off that mark.

hmm well i'm running on 8gigs... i don't even think i have a page file... i have so much apps open sometimes i scare myself.. but i say it's up to the user oui. i bought 8gigs of ram just for fun tbh... the programs i run are not demanding, and it doesn't boost gaming performance really for me. but with the prices of ddr2 being cheaper dan rice in china, and ddr3 falling like manna from the sky, maxing out on ram is surely gonna tempt you.

8GB was really a godsend for me, it allowed me to allocate 6GB to photoshop alone instead of 2GB that I otherwise had with a 32bit OS. 20ft x 10ft signs in photoshop are HUUUUUUGE. Hell the blank white canvas is upward of 500mb alone.

Started working with 720p video in After Effects recently but I haven't seen that much improvement in rendering times (then again I haven't really messed around with settings and I guess that it does more depend on processing power)

i cant even begin to imagine running less than 6 gigs for my next rig. This is a totally subjective question because  not everyone is gonna be running the same apps. Iam gonna be running a whole lot of vms and need the ram.
Rb are you using CS4?
