Last I checked, there is nothing you can configure on the flow modem.

I'd be interested in hearing if people found a way around that.

So say you wanted to do some port forwarding to connect to setup an ftp server from your home machine on a flow connection, how would you do it?

Can't you set up the port forwarding on your router that's connected to the flow modem.
Or do you have the modem connected directly the PC.

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

I would assume most peeps would have it connected directly.

Or maybe with a switch if they want to cable in a few other PCs.

In which case, there would no "router" present on site to do any sort of port forwarding with.

Is it that the flow IP doled out by the modem is directly accessible over the net that port forwarding isn't required? That is, you get a legit internet IP address on every device and not an internal LAN IP (as is the case with blink?).

That would actually be great. Once you got a decent firewall on every device that needs one of course.

Well it only gives out a single ip address which is why clone mac feature is needed. I do believe the first part is correct in that it is a direct connection and no port forwarding is needed. I dont have enough experience with Flow modems to know for sure only played around a lil bit by my neighbour to share across his machines.

Pretty ridiculous I have analog and forced to use blink while my neighbour on the same street, three house away have digital with Flow. Calling Flow they say it not available in my area.

Lord, if its not TSTT playing the arse then its Flow.

As far as I hear, a straight switch doesn't work for multiple pc's in most cases. I haven't tried this myself, but I do know a router does the trick. Even if you plug a switch into a router, that does the trick nicely as well.

Flow's modem is just that, a modem, no routing functions available... You'll need a real live router to do that there internet sharing business

If you plug the modem directly into your PC, yes, you get an internet facing IP, hence you'll need a proper firewall to secure your IT assets ;)

Once you got your router setup, then, and only then do you need to do the port forwarding jig

Let me clear something up here...

You do in fact get a single IP address from Flow, but its not a external WAN address.
That IP exists within Flow's own 'internal' WAN.  They also have their own DNS server
and Gateway that actually provides the internet access, so if you want to set up port
forwarding, you need to know those IPs as well.  If you ask nicely, I think they'll provide
them to you.

If arcman is right, and it is an internal flow wan IP and not a "real" internet IP, then the modem could very well dole out several IPs to your local devices on the lan via a simple switch rather than a router.

I'll test this theory and see.

And if Arc is right, then why do our forums log my Flow IP? It should log the true external IP, not so?

good to end the rig-ma-roll you don't need any port forwading for the flow modem unless its connected to another router. Why because its a flipping modem its directly connected to the internet, remember the dialup days you did not have to port forward did you.

NGW take a detour to FLOW and plug-in into their network to test the theory if flow better than blink.
He is astounded by the results LOL.

That's our office connection, it is a DS3  using Flow

Should be 45MB but we seem to be getting a bit more speed than that.

Not complaining. Pity I can't plug my PS3 into it (legally anyway, lol)

I'd figure something like 25,000 a month but I'll verify  tomorrow.

They typically cost about US$3500 abroad.
