Ah yes common cliches found in all FPS games. I would say that most of these are needed since making things too realistic would just be plain boring lol.......

Lol how great would it be if you weren't a super soldier but instead a lowly office worker with no abilities whatsoever, not even able to aim a gun etc....no action haha. Gimme my crates and exploding barrels now! hehe

Actually woodyear that is not a bad idea. A normal person thrown into a scenario where they have to fend for the life. Never used a gun and has no training. They could put gameplay mechanics that make it difficult to aim or shoot becuase you scared or nervous. You wouldn't be able to handle recoil on gun properly and your whole body will rock back so you wont be able to get off alot of shots. The guns will be limited to basic pistols, a shut gun and maybe a assault rifle. Also as you progress in the game you get better at shooting the weapons (handling the recoil better etc), more confident/brave and resourceful.

Not a bad concept. I think that would be interesting.

Yeah you know they have tried that with before well not in actual gameplay mechanics but from the backstory. Remember Gordon Freeman from HL1, he was a regular scientist and then with his suit he went on a shooting rampage lol.
Actually you raise a good point, emotion it is something lacking in many games. I am talking about the emotion of the protaganist how do you convey that to the player outside of cutscenes.....could be those same things poor aim, stumbling etc when being chased.

wasnt that concept part of farcry also ? lmao @ evil masterminds having their extremely volatile liquids in stacks of brightly coloured barrles with lots of henchmen guarding them.... gimme the big gun

That was a good laugh, but all too true.. Gears of War is one of the closer to real in terms of visual and limit on weaponry but hey those 'INSTANT' and 'ACTIVE' reloads are a necessary XD... super soldiers HO!!!

I always wondered about the reload thing.  If I reload and take out a clip with lets say 5 bullets still remaining,
and discard it, shouldn't those 5 bullets be deducted from my overall ammo total?
Instead, those 5 bullets get 'carried over' somehow into the next clip, until I eventually end up with a last clip
with some bullets short.

Imagine if shooters obeyed this real world mechanic.  To not waste ammo you would actually have to wait
till the clip was actually empty before you reloaded.  Now just imagine how much MORE tactical some online
gunfights would be.  There would be a LOT more conservative use of ammo.

I would actually like to see that implemented in a new FPS.

Activision did something like that in cod 1 and 2 with the M1 Garand. One could not reload the gun unless the clip as entirely spent.

Yeah, I've seen games where you lose ammo for changing out the clip early. Can't recall the titles exactly but definitely remember that.

well in that case it would suck if you had 8 out of 25 bullets in a mag and unexpectedly run into 6 enemies in an area where u'd have to kill em cause u have no cover and unless the game allows you 6 perfect head shots then u'd have a problem... alsos i beleive clips are reloaded when you are not looking in the real world unless a mag is completely empty it's not thrown away... u just fill it back with shells lol and viola new mag...

well that's just me eh i kinda suck in fps's but currently training in gow and crysis WH to get better hehe love da shotgun tho

precisely kraeoss. It would suck. So choosing when to change your mag became a part of the strategy. It all depends on how much of a "thinking man's" fps experience you're looking for. Adds a layer of depth and difficulty.

Another we've seen in some games is the limit on the number of weapons a human can realistically carry. Making the choice of guns in your possession at any time a very real part of your strategy. I think COD4 toed the line very nicely in terms of realism and fun.

On the other extreme, you have Serious Sam type FPS games that adhere to know such limitations at all. One man holding near infinite number of bullets and weapons on his person, including 10 or so parrots, lol.

Time and place for everything. Sometimes you just wanna shoot everything that moves, other times, you want a dash of realism in your coffee.

not to mention back pocket voids where one can seriously carry all their weapons including a hand held cannon. yes Sam is tha man.

hehe well games like crysis i prefer 2 guns and that's SCAR and the gauss rifle these 2 guns enable user to maximize kill/bullet ratio 1. scar ammo is rare at times 2. gauss can kill 2 ata time lol shoot one man onto another off a roof lol... yea that's fun... being shot with precision rifle..... NOT fun lol almost instant death at times
