What HDTV to get?
« on: February 20, 2009, 10:17:48 AM »
Hey

I need some advice.

My parents recently started looking around for a big HDTV. After going to Pricemart, Comfort Zone, Circuit City etc. we have seen plasmas going for really good prices. From what I understand the technology is not very popular due to cost/problems and is slowly being discontinued. I was wondering do you think a good deal on a plasma set is worth it compared to a similar sized lcd?

More importantly I was wondering what kind of repair service we have in Trinidad? I not talking about the warranty from the store/extended warranty but when you are outside of the service period are there places in Trinidad that generally fix LCD/Plasma TVs?

Depends on the plasma tv, early model plasma suffered from burn-in. My advice is not to compare lcd/plasma but instead do research on every model u interested.

Hmm yeah true, but I guess their main concern is reliability of plasma technology. Also possible repair service outside of the warranty period would be good. Are both LCD and Plasma technology just as difficult to repair? Especially locally....

Courts has a service center for most major brands so you can get service.

once its not an OLDDDD model, then the reliability of plasma is not a problem.

If they want a reallyreallyreallyBigmanesque tv, then go Plasma

If they want a non douche bag sized tv up to like 47 inches, then go plasma.
AIM FOR MC 1080p!! dont accept inferiority at the ridiculous prices they charge locally.
If you cant get a 1080p screen at a humane price. Buy online and ship seriously.

Oh and please please please. tell me yall have a REASON for a big screen hdtv..

i sincerely hope your not going to spend bluebacks on a huge hdtv to watch tv6....
if not.. if that is indeed your plan... please.. convince them otherwise.
there is nothing worse than HD (horrible definition) in  larger than life size

Haha Crixx for real. Nah I making sure they have some HD content to watch, they currently got some Blu Ray and I have lots of downloaded content in 1080 on a pc connected with HDMI. Basically it will be a large HD monitor for movies....

So yeah I did find the Plasmas on display looked better than the LCDs, viewing angle was incredible.

I guess then since the issues have been resolved we may go plasma but the CTC Comfort Zone people did tell me that they are discontinuing bringing in Plasma TVs as they are not selling well against the LCDs, guess it too pricey?

Importing one of these I can only shudder @ shipping charges and customs rapage :s

Hmm I wonder how the new PS3 will look on one of those :p

The Samsung LCDs have a game mode (with a lil xbox 360 icon) that supposed to reduce lag.

hahhaha @ Horrible Definition. Good one crixx.

We had identified some Samsungs in another thread. They have some rave reviews online. Seen them in the flesh with BluRay and it is to buy for.

Highly recommended.

A lot of user interface sensibilities too. An extra touch of quality.

Personally, 42" is where I see the action starting.

26-8" is great for a PC monitor but once you're talking living room duty, 42 and > idmc.

Yeah been eyeing some 50" sets. Still hadda decide whether to go Plasma or LCD. Anyone here uses plasma for gaming? I would hate to get burn in lol though I read somewhere that it is no longer an issue with plasma...
