Laptops worth having
« on: April 01, 2008, 12:38:48 AM »
Well i generally have no faith in laptops at all but i recently have the need to get a laptop for school an stuff so bleh.

ALthough i love love love the EEEpc i dont think my eyes could take the super long hours on it so i was looking at some others.

I looked around and actually decided to check dell cause iam looking for something very cheap just for work purposes, no gaming really, maybe a lil dota and roms when i have time but thas it, so iam seriously thinking of this one:

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&fb=1&l=en&oc=DNCWPA1&s=dhs

wat sold me on it was the low price and the chill pattern, i can totally see a nice sasuke grafix blending so nicely on it ^_^.

then i was looking on new egg for a lappy for my sister who wants to spend a bit more and had to double take at this asus laptop i was like fuh real!!!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220308

THAT is a laptop i would actually spend money on, something almost worth the price, which i almost never find in a laptop.

Also thanks to shiv i kinda like this site called ibuypower
this cheapish laptop i configured is nice
http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/configurator.aspx?mid=188#header

THen there is this toshiba from amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010TTSIA/ref=pd_cp_pc_0?pf_rd_p=250314501&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0010TVLP8&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0EY4ZW9T6MGQQZS4FJTW

so iam leaning towards teh dell cause i dont need a monster

but that asus is actually making me think to dip into my pc fund and forgo a great pc for that laptop
what you guys think

Well, it comes down to what you need it for.  Those reasons are what should drive your decision.
If I had the money I would buy that Asus in a heartbeat.

Just on principle, I'm not recommending any machine less than 2.4ghz, we're in the year 2008. 1.8ghz is so 2005. (As is celeron/sempron)

That Asus has specs to induce a wet dream at that price. Sweet.

Go asus go!

That Ibuypower link you posted is fubar but I digged around on their site and this ain't bad

INTEL Core 2 Duo Mobile T8300 Processor
[2.4GHz/3MB L2 Cache]
15.4" 16:10 Wide Screen 1280x800 LCD Display
2048MB DDR2-667 Memory
120GB Serial-ATA HDD
Mobility 512MB NVIDIA GeForce GO 8600GT Video
8X Dual Format DVD±R/±RW Drive
GB Network LAN
Build-in 2.0 Mega Pixel WebCam
Build-in 56K Modem
Build-in 4x USB 2.0 Ports
Build-in 1x IEEE-1394
Build-in 4-in-1 Media Reader
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
Free 802.11g Wireless Card
and more.....
$1195

Bonus points for a Windows XP OS configuration.

Posted for aesthetics cause if you add $49.00 more it could look like this:

Hi everybody.  :hello: I've decided that it's time to get a laptop for school and a bit of gaming. The only laptop I know might be a decent buy is the dell xps m1530. Are there any others you all would recommend for a similar price?

In terms of schoolwork I'd just be using Microsoft Word for ordinary assignments and Dev-C++ for programming. Any computer could run those. The games I have in mind are The Orange Box, either FIFA 09 or PES 2009, and maybe a driving sim like GTR2. My Dad will be buying it, and I think he'd be willing to buy a laptop for anything from US$900 to US$1100. And yes we're willing to buy online.

The price range I mentioned is for the laptop only.

And I'll definitely take a look at that Acer.

BTW, how do warranties from sites like Newegg work for international customers like us? Do we get any warranty at all?

That signature is probably the best I've seen yet. Pity it's clocking 4MB. The modem of any dial up user (all 5 of them) will die trying to load any page you post on.

Crixx gave you some good choice there. Nice resurrect on the thread. It's funny reading something you posted so many months ago and have no recollection off. It's like looking into a past memory in Harry Potter.

If you're not sure about the cc on newegg (and who is?) you may want to try amazon.com. They have a good track record for shipping to trinidad and processing local credit cards without woe and dismay.

Yes, but newegg will not accept the transaction when they find out that the Paypal accont is tied to a non-US ccard.
Believe me...I've tried...more than once.
