Which is better between these two?

Both are modular and around the same price and watts.

The Corsair is made by Seasonic, which I read is probably the best psu manufacturer. Leaning that way.

Though I liked the cabling on the Thermaltake (and own one, the bigger brother, 600Watt)

Reviews looking good on both. Can I just choose one blindly? Any "gotcha's" before I commit ducats?

While the two are virtually identical in terms of specs, I'd say go with the corsair for just a couple reasons.

1) Corsair rules, Thermaltake drools in my book. There's only two power supplies in my life that I have actually gone up in plumes of smoke, almost choking this bitch to death and that's a "Sunshine" branded PSU and a Thermaltake purepower from yesteryear that blew within a few hours of use.

2)The corsair has a slightly higher amperage rating on the 3rd 12v rail which could prove to be useful for maintaining stability in taxing situations.

3) Corsair unit is more efficient. This is important if your mom/wifey is watching the pennies on the light bill harder than Cher's pan w/o makeup.

Conclusion: Corsir ftw.

Oh, let me just point out...unless you REAAAALLLY want that modularity feature, BOTH of these units are overpriced as you can get a considerably more powerful unit for just a few dollars more. If what you're concerned about is cable management, there are ways to hide your cables so that the mess doesnt show. I think that daunting task is a small price to pay for the knowledge that your pc is well fed with nuff clean food.

Well they both have 4 sata power connectors. The only thing coming in 8's is the 4 pin molex.

Both models are indeed modular too.

That 2nd Corsair 750W that the goodly Captain quoted is indeed a much better value.

I can recommend that 750TX PSU as well, built a PC for one of my friends using that PSU recently, once you can deal with the cable management, it should be able to take a pretty decent load.

I would invest in one of those as well if I have to replace my Iceberg PSU...

Thanks for the timely and helpful input. I've got a modular psu and I love having just the cables I need in the rig.

Also (and in case you hadn't already guessed) this PC won't be overclocked. I'd definitely agree with springing for the 750 if this was gonna be a beast of a rig or an overclocked power house.

I'm thinking specs as follows: 3ghz dual core, 4gb ram, nvidia gtx260 or ati4850, 1 rom drive, 1 hd

Once any of those two psu's listed can handle the load that's the route I'd love to take. Nice clean feng shui psu.

From the comments, looks like the Thermaltake gets the boot in favour of the corsair.

ive seen all sorts of PSU burnt, from the no-name codogen brands , to thermaltake, to coolermaster.
One brand dat never fail me is PC Power & Cooling, i have a 420W in a machine rel long now, and dat thing outpwerforming other 550W psu, myself and isme2003 has owned a 750W PC Power for years, which currently pushing we old machine, for years, overstressed and over used, never had an issue, and now im on pc power 1.2kw. For cheap midrange builds, i go corsair, they use the same oem (seasonic) as pc power, so they are the only other psu i trust. and from years of building rigs, a PC Power psu NEVERRRRRRRRRRR spoil on me, only started with corsiar a few years back, so dat has some time to live up to their standards, but so far so good, phoenix uses enermax and seems to be good also, but ill recomend PC Power to men who want good powerful shit, and Corsair for d men dat cant afford PC Power, dont buy d Orange branded corsair doh, different oem, Yellow and Blue branded is what yuh want. Reserach ppl RESEARCH!
