Help Phil Choose New Monitor
« on: December 25, 2008, 11:16:24 AM »
Well it's been 7 years while i've been using my own pc (yes i know, i'm young). But i think it's time i give my eyes some LCD loving. I've been using a CRT monitor for the whole time, from a 15inch AOC then to a 17inch AOC(which i use till this day). So.. since my rig is slowly stepping into the realms of uberness, i say it's time to get a bigger monitor.

Have only two choices in mind, only because of local availability, both AOC btw..

CHOICE ONE:

AOC 20" 2016Vwa [AVAILABLE AT PRW 1700TT]

PRODUCT DETAILS
> Resolution 1680x1050
> Brightness: 300 cd/m2
> Contrast Ratio: 3000:1
> Response Time: 5ms
> Analog Dsub & Digital DVI-D with HDCP Inputs
> HD 720p/1080i Compatible
> Built-in Stereo Speakers
> Wall Mountable
> PC & MAC Compatible
> Certified for Windows Vista

CHOICE TWO:

AOC 22" 2219S1 [AVAILABLE AT PRW 1850TT]

PRODUCT DETAILS
> Resolution: 1680x1050
> Brightness: 300 cd/m2
> Contrast Ratio: 3,000:1
> Response Time: 5ms
> Analog Dsub Input
> Slim Cabinet
> Glossy Black Cabinet
> Wall Mountable

I was leaning towards the 20inch because to me it boasts a bit better specs, with the HD, and it comes with the option to use DVI, but the 22inch looks so sexy, lol, but only uses analog d-sub... but i'm a LCD noob, so idk.

I'm open to any suggestions, whether it may be a choice of which one i'll be better off with OR also if there is any better/cheaper solution for me online that won't amount to the cost of these two monitors at final cost(shipping included). I also would like to have a monitor that has multiple connections, i.e DVI, ANALOG D-SUB or even HDMI AND S-VIDEO etc..because i may want to use it with a console in the future. If anyone can recommend one for me that won't cost more than the two i posted above, i'll be truly grateful. Thanks.  :happy0203:

I'd say import.

The AOC 22" you referenced can be had local for under $1400 now.

Will do more research and get back to you...

not so much liking the contrast ratio and the response time on the monitor, but i'll consider it as a worthy option though, thanks.

Well, as you're probably aware, i'm an Acer spokesperson, and if they found out I was using a different brand of monitor, i'd get strung up by my balls, but the Acer X223Wbd is one hell of a monitor. We have one in the house so I know what i'm talking about first hand. Coming from an AL2216W, this is a nice step up in terms of erganomics with the same great iq. Costs less than $1300 landed in Miami. That is worth some serious looking into.

Still. Find some space for the 28, man. You'll want to make me your best man in your wedding when u begin to use it.

Ok, Crixx, explain that statement. HD is HD regardless of resolution, not so?  If you can get a monitor that does 1080p at 22 inches, I think that's a plus.

As far as the 22" full HD being a waste, i'd say yes and no. At that res, dont expect miracles when viewing video as opposed to 1680x1050. The full hd would afford you more 'real estate' though, allowing you to run more programs etc side by side.

When you start talking $300 for a 22" though, id have no choice but to ask for your papers because for $50 more, you can get 6 more inches.

I mean. Seriously. You're letting that dumb desk dictate the size of the monitor you going with? Man. Maybe we're just different like that because long time i'd pitced that desk in the bush and get a table or something cuz NOTHING is getting between me and my big screen I can tell u that much. Even if that bad boy have to levitate.

lol yea capn.. but the monitor aint even out for proper retail yet, it's about 250 actually, waiting to see if the 22incher will touch down on amazon soon, either that or get the acer.

but this desk, 7 years strong..LOL...

the 28incher is oh so tempting dude, esp since i'm looking to start doing some AutoCAD work for this year... who knows. i may just do it.
