is the Q8200 worth that 1600$ price? over the 1400$ am going 2 pay for d Q6600

me ent no big intel man but i think d q82 has less cache than d q66 and the overclocking goodness also less than the q66
but on the good side FSB 1333 and 45 nm compare 2 the q66 1066 n 65 nm,
supose 2 use less power and have more features

*note*: (not 100% sure bout these things)

Bone, you sound like a nice simple guy who doesnt plan on doing much overclocking (if any). I'd say get the Q8200 for the lower temps and power draw and SSE4 (not a selling pt for me personally). Stuff like the low 7.5x multi and half the cache and the fact that you need a decent motherboard to overclock a q8200 past 3ghz should not come into play as...you're not really planning to overclock.

The chipset on that board is yesterday's tech. You should be looking at the Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L. Overclocking that CPU to 3GHz is real easy with that board.

The Asus P5Q series is just as good also.

Good advise. Are you planning in the video card department? That is also a factor when considering your mainboard choice.

In the cooling department, a number of options have already been covered on the forums so no need to reinvent the wheel there.

Another thing of note is your PSU. What are you using there?

i saw if u looking for a 550 watt, consider this corsair then

http://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-550w-Certified-Power-Supply/dp/B000WU2FGK/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1230346719&sr=8-1

i'm not an expert, but doh try to get the cheapest psu to save money, try to get a quality one that has great reviews and lfew bad experiences. if ur running that 9600gt or any other similar low power sucking card like it, the logisys may do fine, but if you wanna upgrade in the future, consider looking at a better PSU. my 2c

i 2nd either of those. Maybe you could get the info outta sax to get one of coolermaster PSUs bone.
That's a 36A 12v @ 600W 100,000 Hr MTBF PSU - that aint nothing to laugh at - the efficiency a lil low for my taste but i sure it a fkload higher than that Logisys thing.
Worst case you under load your PSU which just mean it not working as hard. less heat and longer life.

IMO if you on a budget and you want to switch platforms and get a better performing rig, it would make more sense to get a decent board and power supply now, run ah OC'ed e52/XIGMATEK HDT-RS1283 which will run circles round that 6000+ according to the OC's i see on it, and then later on get a quad. That's a WIN/WIN, you get a better performing system that you won't have to question the quality of, and you have option to upgrade later.

It make no sense going quad and you cheap out on the rest of parts, can barely power it, and worst yet planning to OC.

u think i go get a board like that localy or even somthing near 2 it
and if so, at what price?
and coming from a 6000+ i ca go and get a E5200 i dout it go run thats much circules round d 6000+
which is y i pick a Q6600, cheapest Quad i know...well in intel that is and i could always OC when i get a better cooler, sure i could reach 3.0GHz on d MSI.
D PSU go hold for d while cause a 2x6000+ uses more power than a Q6600
+ i like my MSI combo, die reason y i also buy a MSI card cause i started with a MSI board and 3 boards later still going with MSI and me ent think i changing da card anytime soon

*mind wonders*
(what i hato try is my MSI card on a different manufacturer board.... i wonder if that go make a big diffence?)

o and somthing i curious bout: hearing bout a AMD 4x Phenom2, wonder how that go line up aganst intel Q66?

Why do you keep saying 2x6000? Its 6000+ X2

And how you arrive at the fact that an x2 uses more power?

Also, there's no advantage using a msi card on a msi board, unless its an overclocked version, in which case the brand has nothing to do with anything since almost all manufacturers follow the vendor's reference design.

well the msi board u getting it locally or ordering it? if you're ordering your parts, try to research and find more up to date hardware then. I'm sure you can find an affordable solution, even from MSI, that's a bit more up to date. but i would take Nephilim's advice to heart if i were you.

u think i go get a board like that localy or even somthing near 2 it
and if so, at what price?

I know WIZZ have a this, which is about the same tier as the GA-EP45-DS3L, for about 1200 i think, i have no idea if they jack up the price again as when i priced it the first time it was 1095 or so.

you can get the E52 @ prw for just under 700-800.

ram u got so is just a PSU and a cooler you need.

I stand by my previous recommendation. also you should really look up the overclocks and reviews on the E52 before you look at the model number and decide it's a pushover, I'll be building a budget rid for an acquaintance of mine using that, a low tier p5q, 2GB hyperX, and a EVGA dual slot 9600GT. it should be up between the 5-10th of Jan. If i get the time I'll overclock (CPU only, the 450VX may not be able to handle more than a CPU OC) and bench it and post the results.

D PSU go hold for d while cause a 2x6000+ uses more power than a Q6600

And how you arrive at the fact that an x2 uses more power?

He may be referencing the processor specs for AMD and INTEL

however INTEL doesn't say how much power the chip using, they saying how much thermal energy in watts must be removed from the chip in order for it to perform normally. Is a thief head thing.
Which is where he may be getting that the 6k using more than the q66; the 6k have wattage 125W, the intel have Thermal Design Power 95W. INTEL for info fail.

also from some of the benches i see online the q6600 using about 102W max @ stock. So in essence he right.
But for the purposes that most ppl buy a q66 that going through the window.

Check the price of the Gigabyte board I suggested.  It is very cheap, and you're getting virtually all the performance of the enthusiast version.  Its the best P45-chipset board for under 100 US.  If you're really serious about ordering, myself, Saxman, or Captain Awesome will gladly do it for you.  Just make sure and decide what you want, and have all money up front.

holy crap yo.

Considering the power graphs are the power draw for the entire system during the bench...

Quote
Our Extech 380803 power meter has the ability to log data, so we can capture power use over a span of time. The meter reads power use at the wall socket, so it incorporates power use from the entire system—the CPU, motherboard, memory, graphics solution, hard drives, and anything else plugged into the power supply unit.

i dunno how intense Cinebench is but if it at least on par with vantage...I glad to know i still under powering my lil 520W here :D

Good: FSB speeds of 1600 MHz, P45 chipset, Dynamic Energy Saver Advanced, DDR2 1200MHz

Bad: no FireWire, no duel lan, no raid, no eSATA

Small thing: realtek ALC888 CODEC, no Crossfire, VRM modules left un-cooled, basic aluminum alloy passive cooling, 4gear power saving thing instead of the Dynamic 6-Gear switching (think it ha 12 now?)

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=gigabyte_p45_mobos&num=1

http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelink.html?rlid=175930

looking at d neoseeker review i ha 2 make sure and get a cpu with a high multiplier if i want 2 overclock cause 1560 FSB looking like d max board could go

but other than that:
Arc if u think die d best board for me considering me buget, i trust yuh
if u ordering for me gemme a figure na and we go talk
