Partition dead on HDD!

I have a Maxtor 60GB HDD U133.I running Win2k Pro on partition 1: 4GB and the ramainder is for data (56GB).I was defragging and like the PC went into hibernation mode.When i wake it up it telling me "read error".WTF??The 56GB partition good though.Everything fine there but the 4GB screwed.I try formatting the 4GB and it din format under the win2k DOS type install screen.It formatting under recovery console though but very slow..put it on last evening round 6pm and this morning it reach 80% (6am).Nebody know nething to fix this or had a situation like this??The drive dead or alive?

Get your data moved to another HD ASAP.

i would agree,but after it is possible for recovery,if u freeze ur hdd.I did that already and it worked immc

Well, either we right or we wrong.  If we wrong and he follow we advice, he have a backup HD.  If we right and he follow we advice, he data safe.

If we wrong and he ain't take we on, is nutting.

If we right and he ain't take we on, is he data in a sling.

Given the universe of possibilities, what would you do?

friggin backup..i buy a spindle of 50 verbatim's today..i aint taking the risk.but i gone run it on XP and c what i could do.Thank fellas

ummm the freezing of a HD will mainly make sense if ur drive head is sticking to the platter of the drive, or if the lubrication of the drive mechanism is wearing out....so if it's not old, then i think that freezing the drive wouldn't help out much...

Just my 2 cents to ur suggestion Andro...

I think there could be a disk error in the allocation system with reference to the 4 GB partition....
