It will be interesting to see the performance numbers of that card. Jan 8th they say? That's not too far off again.

Lets not forget Enermax, Antec, and Cooler Master for PSU duty as well eh.

I'm currently using this Cooler Master, and its performance so far has been nothing short of stellar.

well the pc power and cooling psu i have is a beast and it did not cost much at all. The other colours are more expensive though.. lol

or you can get the popular  Corsair 750w.

both are really good, just pick anyone..lol. If you want more power than these two, then your rig has to be out of space yo..

yeah the ram issues are clear and its been a good thing in the sense that there is limited choice right now, so what works, simply just plain ole works.

think ive decided on the 295 instead of the two 260 216s

shakes head @ US$138 cooler posted by arc

That's more than a bloody processor. How can buying such an expensive CPU fan ever be justified? lol

damn overclockers.

Was thinking of doing the quad core bidness myself, just about to make a thread when I saw crixx's. Excellent posts (except for the one saying old, like baego old)

Other than that, research is showing that this I7 processor and respective mobo is ludicrously expensive. Better to stick on the regular quad/ core2 platform and pour that money into vid card power. That is, if you didn't win lotto.

The gaming returns just aren't worth it. This snippet from this article (http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/15818/16) puts the fly in the ointment

"In fact, for the average guy, the secret hero of our test results was the Core 2 Duo E8600. If your main reason for wanting a fast computer is to surf the web and play games, you're probably better off getting a fast dual-core like the E8600 than you are picking up a Core i7-920 or any quad-core processor. Game developers keep threatening to really make use of more than two cores, but it just hasn't happened yet. "

If you won lotto, by all means, ignore advice and go for broke, go directly for broke, do not pass go, do not collect $200.00

My opinions were formed after reading this article on tomshardware.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i7-overclock,2112-7.html

They compared an I7 920 vs an oc-ed e8500.

Interesting read.

There I7 Machine's base specs were as follows:

CPU      Intel Core i7 920 2.66 GHz, QPI-2429, 8 MB Cache
CPU Cooler   Stock

yeah, my eye on that q9550. Price still a lil rough though. You could get the I7 920 for less (ram and mobo upgrade not withstanding)

The faster (ghz wise) 3.16 GHz e8500 @ US$186, looking tempting too.

Not as a replacement for my still very capable 3 GHz E6850 but as a processor choice for another rig I'm looking to build.
