Red, u sure it's PER 12V rail, or just the amount of Amps being delivered on the 12V rails in all? Because I have a PSU that delivers 24 and 22A on each 12V rail, and the card runs stable.

Well I thought was per 12V rail, I must have been mistaken as you said yours works fine.

What would you say should be the minimum Amps in all to run a 4870?

Cause it seems like you really have to make sure your PSU can handle these newer cards esp if you have alot of other stuff plugged into it.

I'd say for a 4870, a PSU should have nothing less than 40A to be safe. However, >60A would be ideal depending on your configuration... Right now I know I bridging my PSU's limit with everything inside this PC. Hence why I've resorted to using a 2nd PSU to power extra stuff that would be outside otherwise of the case: not the prettiest solution but it works for now...

After recently finding out about 12V rails and how much Amps are required on a rail to have there newer gpus run problem free....what PSU do you have Saxman? and how many Amps are you running per 12V rail??

Suggested for a 4870 is 32A per 12V rail and if you want the Nvidia core 216 the required Amps per 12V rail is 36A.

^^

So I must conclude. With no funds to buy a new card, (even if i sell card, the money will quickly go to other stuff) I stuck with this till further notice... maybe if Abit releases a BIOS update problem will fix

Yes I have, but there are these issues:

Who on GATT gonna buy this board with such a "major" issue (granted it works beautifully otherwise)? Especially as I pay close to US$200 + shipping + VAT for said board?

I am just not too keen on changing out motherboards at this time. It's a lot easier to install new video card than a new motherboard. Call me lazy, but that is just how I feel until further notice.

And my finances are bad at this time, so is not like I CAN change per say. The risk of being more broke than I am already while waiting for a sale is just too high.

The easiest and fastest way out (once my finances look better!) is to go back to Nvidia. GTX 260 core 216 is my target. But that is a next year acquisition at this rate.
God is dead.

Funny thing though...I could not find any evidence (on da inturnetz) of 4870 incompatibility with this board.  It just seems like some really
rotten luck at play here.  Video-card works beautifully in any other system.

I think you said another 4870 didn't work either, right?

Netizen is correct about my board.

Arcman is correct about the fact that another 4870, a Visiontek, did the same thing. Mine is a Diamond. My research has found just 2 'fleeting' references to any suggestions of incompatibility between board and card.
