Asus Rampage II Extreme preview...
« on: October 13, 2008, 10:24:09 AM »
Asus' flagship Corei7 (X58-chipset) motherboard.

Its so purrty...

Now this is what I call a kickass layout.  This is why I prefer Asus (usually) over Gigabyte and MSI.
My only grip is that I wish that the on-board buttons were placed along the bottom edge, but I can
understand why Asus placed them where they are.

This one is probably going to cost north of 300 US (probably closer to 400, if previous models are any indication).

Quite a worthy addition to the Republic Of Gamers product line, wouldn't you say?

yes layout seems typical of asus... nothing different from the current line i mean... except, i'm glad they finally decided to put the sata ports on the side this time yay

and although i can see why they placed the power buttons where the are (because if u install a high end gcard in the last pci-e slot it would block them)... i think they shouldve considered that not many people would not be using that slot anyway and shouldve left the buttons to the bottom edge... it might be kinda difficult to reach with cdroms etc over it

Wow. That is a beauty of a board. Only one PCI could be a bummer. I like the on board buttons too on the Asus boards. Nice touch.

that rampage cooler is not higher than the pci-e slots, i'm pretty sure it wont be higher than the epu/sb heatsink and heatpipes that are on the p5q boards (and the 4870x2 clears that easily)

I think this should answer your questions Crixx.  Clearance won't be an issue with this board...

just buy a soundcard straight from creative... asus' implementation wont be as good as creative's in any way (and yes they both use creative's x-fi processor/chip)
