Ok people, I have decided to simply get a Quad core CPU and a HD 4850 based on various recommendations posted here. Maybe next year I'll upgrade again, but we'll have to see how technology evolves between now and then.

Still looking for a decent case to put it all together in tho... so if anyone can assist in this regard, please PM me urgently.

Otherwise, I'll prolly just have to pay to ship a CM 690 (working out to be the same cost as the MC case

)

If you want a quality case, you'll have to bite that bullet.
Or, why not ask a store to order it for you? It might actually be cheaper. Try it.

One must NOT discredit the completeness of the AMD platform. Once it's all together Fusion and AOD work with all parts for a seemlessly integrated OC interface.

Well my present rig is AMD/nvidia chipset/nvidia gpu

new build is P5Q-E/Intel cpu/DAAMIT gpu

Like I said W1nTry, I'm just gonna replace the E8400 with a Quad core cpu and a decent GPU

I did ask PRW once, and they said it could be done, but I never took them up on their offer.
Call them and see if they still do it, and make sure and ask for an approximate total price.

I got my CM 590 from their branch here in Tobago shockingly(yea they actually had one sitting there for sale), so as Arc said, call em and see if they will bring down a 690 for you

The question is however O/C what are you doing with your rig? Just as an example, I fold quite alot so more core==better than faster less cores. All depends on what you're doing.

Take +1 for making me go PRW today to find they have the CM690 in stock!!! and at a decent price (less than $1000, heck less than the $850 OC was gonna charge meh

Anyways, back on track after quite the absence

I was busy with life and some other projects that kept all of my free time to zero.

So as I was home on sick leave last week, I started feeling a little better closer towards the weekend, so I got started on the Case and did some lapping on the cooler as it inherited some scratches via shipping with "a friend of a friend". Needless to say, I not trusting that person to bring in anything electronic for me again...

The CPU is mounted on the P5Q, along with cooler, RAM and associated cooler, got back the 8800GS, so that in there until the HD4850 lands

Just the PSU and HDD's to go in and the subsequent tests to makes sure all is well, before I get down to the OS, apps, and of course benchmarks!

Some pics to follow, and I must say that 'lapping' plan wasn't as painless as I first thought it would be...

Minor update;

Re-installing Windows 7 RC (x64 this time) took less than 20 mins (~18), this thing gets to the desktop in less than a minute. I must say I'm getting psyched all over again.

Right now restoring my data/settings. Next is drivers, patching, apps, AV and Updates.

Then we start the benchies @ Stock

damn, I feel like a n00b. It's the end of the year, and I haven't posted any scores yet?!?!

At this rate I won't even be in the top 20

Some "teething" issues holding me back, but Sax can verify my hardware is up and running, just not running any benchmarks
