I'm in UWI doing Law and will be needing a laptop when i go to barbados next year .

My budget is around 1000 US , and i'd like to have half decent gaming capabilty and a good warranty..

So far the best value for money  , hardware wise seems to be Asus brand laptops , anyone here have experience using them?

 Recommendations? Thoughts?

This is the laptop i will be purchasing shortly http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115485
best value laptop out there, amazing price, amazing specs, except for onboard graphics, which isnt to much of a problem since its just a lowly laptop and not a gaming rig.

You will NOT have a tremendous amount of time to game if your doing law in barbados, trust me and you might wanna walk with a wireless router while your at it.

but for the sake of choice http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115487
that laptop leverages some of the features of the above model, to stick in a 8400M GS and still be of a low enuff price.

I would choose the first, but the second is ok .

the acer clearly wins out

probably, he could also use new eggs power search and put in the spec he wants and he should find a system in his price range

yea
and acer will most likely be peppered all over those results

like i said, people have choices, but that first acer is astounding, its like they arent trying to rip you off like every other laptop out there in terms of price performance.

Acer = good built quality and warranty as well?

I'm looking to buy aroung NEXT YEAR july though, i'm waiting for  radeon 4670's and the Nvidia equivilant to become available for the laptop platform, so its actually an upgrade somewhat from my x1800xt in my rig now.

just looking for advice in general , I don't need hold my hand tech support , just good coverage and build quality .

Crixx has the idea though , i'm looking for the best specs possible at the lowest price, and good enough warranty to keep me going for the  2 years in barbados.

well next july we will see what acer has in store
but trini thats a ridiculously long time away to plan for any tech build man
things gonna change so much by then.

if you wanna buy this year, then this is the way to go
or better yet wait till thanksgiving and lets see where prices hit

as for next year if yu seriously want a desktop replacement
you gonna need to save up maybe 1200 Us instead of the 1k and we will see whats on the market then.

But like i said, i have a few friends who just came back from law in barbados
and iam telling you, you wont have alot of gaming time, or rather you shouldnt let the lure of gaming distract you from the countless hours of reading and reading and reading and then writing tons of papers.

I realise i won't have much time for gaming , but i don't want to spend  5 grand on something that can't run SC2 and diablo 3 for when i do have holidays.

The idea is that i'll get next year's Acer/Asus model in that price range , i was  just looking for confirmation and encouragement to not follow the Dell/HP/Sony path everyone usually does.

thanks in advance.

http://www.xoticpc.com/gt725074-order-p-2551.html How about this one?

Some basic questions :  17 inch laptop versus 15 inch laptop?

16 : 10 resolution or 16: 9?

!7" laptops are basically heavier than the standard 15.4
if you are looking for ease of mobility 15" and under is the choice
If typing regularly and need the room 17' is the way to go
(although I have a 13.1 XPS and see wife type like a bat out of hell)
Its really your choice. View a couple on campus and
see what ergonomics suit you before you put out any money.

hawking of commercial wares is a no no mr proteus, if you wish to do so on our forums you can speak to noob gone wild about commercial bannerspace, in the future please read our TOS. First warning

That Acer didn't look bad at all. Wonder why it is a deactivated item on the newegg page though? New model out maybe?

What's your budget my_thumb_hurts? That's the million dollar question.

Personally, I still recommend Dell because they support and honor warranty for Trinidad and Tobago.
