STAR WARS TFU
« on: September 18, 2008, 08:48:42 AM »
I finally got it in the mail last night. I put in a couple hours, I gotta say, I'm quite pleasantly surprised.

Unfortunately I got the xbox version over the PS3, which sucks. Graphically it's not up to par. But it's not horrible.

I'm in the second level, which looks awesome. The work put into the game is most apparent. It's a junkyard, pretty good art direction, pretty good level design, nice textures.

The gameplay, like all of these games is a tad bland in terms of combo design and dept. I think it should have been a little closer to SC IV where you have one button for vertical strikes and another for horizontal, perhaps a trigger button used as a modifer. But it's not horrible, seeing as you have a decent amount of options when mixing force capabilities in.

The animations are pretty smooth, pretty fancy, pretty nice. Close up textures of the characters during cutscenes reveals some ugliness most times tho.

The audio is as expected, fantastic. Unfortunately I have the xbox version, where the hardware is limited to DD, This would have been another plus on the PS3 where I would have had uncompressed linear pcm. But even on the limited hardware it's fantastic.

The ability to level up, also with full control over which attributes you would like to level up, is nice. It's not over complicatedly deep, but it doesn't need to be.

Just hands on impressions. :)  I think it's a good rental. Not a purchase tho.

i have both versions. Bought the XBOX, rented the PS3.....despite the BULLSH!T reviews of graphical comparison, the 360 has smoother framerate.
Very good storyline, which makes up for a so so targeting system.

whatever, im going back to warhammer

lol. NO it does not. I rented the PS3 version and I ran a comparison and it does look better on the PS3, run a bit smoother, and I haven't experienced any screen tearing on the PS3 version (not to say there isn't any.)

I played it by my cousin on the 360 and there is a good deal of screen tearing. Its the first 360 game I've ever seen it in. I cant say if it is in the PS3 version as I dont own it and with LBP, MK vs DC, Resistance 2 and Far Cry 2 this is not on my must buy list.

^^^ LOL...oh gorm Crixx.

My brother bought the Xbox 360 version, and while watching him
play it, I did notice a small amount of 'issues', and one time the game
outright froze, and the console needed to be restarted.  The game definitely
has some issues, but the art direction, voice acting, sound, and story are
GRADE A.  Those positives slightly outweigh the negatives in my book.

Ok, since it's the TFU thread I'm going to just go ahead and ask if the game is any good on Wii?

IGN rated the Wii version the highest, despite it's unpredictable camera, cinematics that don't even hold up against some GC titles, although I heard the actual gameplay does look better, and the six hour long story :/

GameSpot did quite the opposite lol so I don't really need to go there right?

So if anyone has played it on Wii, please let me know if it's any good.

yes. Its selling as a "bundle" in Best Buy
although Lucas arts was very mad about Nintendo making the wiimote attachment without telling anyone.

Yes, well i've read that most reviewers say the implementation of the motion-sensor light saber combat as well as force gestures are almost flawless, I want to hear this from a Trini's point of view too, not just the controls but all other aspects as well ( don't even talk about the in-game cutscenes :x That's something I can live without :O)

Ok so, I've met a term in this thread that i am not familiar with, "Screen tearing". What is this exactly? And not to jump on anyone here, but a lot of people DID say that the game certainly has less issues on PS3 when compared with the Xbox 360 version. Also, it has been stated that there are less movable parts of the evironment in the Wii version so it eliminates most of the lock-on problems found on its HD counterparts. I will confirm this myself, getting it later this month.

Another thing, Lucasarts was indeed a little pissed at Nintendo for revealing the motion plus so late in TFU's development.

"Dear Lucasarts,
We are a wealthy company and we do not CARE that we revealed this without your knowledge, we're gonna be making more profit than you by the end of the year, settle down, you are implementing the MP into the clone wars game.
I repeat, we are RICH. F**k you.

Sincerely,
Your friends at Nintendo."

This is what I believe went on here D=

Which brings up another thing, the Clone Wars game...another story eh?
