LOS ANGELES - Warner Bros. says it is bumping Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from its planned November US release into 2009.The sixth installment in the blockbuster franchise about boy wizard Harry now will open in the United States on July 17 rather than Nov. 21, the studio said today. The move was made to take advantage of an open weekend in Hollywood's busy summer season, said Alan Horn, Warner Bros. president and chief operating officer. The film had been on schedule, and the change was not due to any production snags, he said."The picture is completely, absolutely, 100 per cent on schedule, on time. There were no delays," Horn told The Associated Press. "I've seen the movie. It is fabulous. We would have been perfectly able to have it out in November."The eight-month delay is expected to disappoint millions of Harry Potter fans who have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the blockbusting series. The surprise move comes only two weeks after the film's teaser trailer debuted online.Studio President and Chief Operating Officer Alan Horn says the studio has had success with past summer Harry Potter releases, including the fifth movie.Horn also says the Writers Guild of America strike had "impacted the readiness of scripts for other films - changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of."
