2.5 laptop HDD VS 3.5 desktop HDD

I have 5 desktop hdd, that I use for storage, but recently i've been thinking (since I travel alot) can i replace my 3.5 with 2.5 and suffer no performance loss (or any kind loss for that matter)? just to note all my drives are in USB enclosures.

There are 7200 rpm 2.5 drivers

ESATA would be faster but much less compatible as you'll need a PC with ESATA support. As far as portable storage goes though, can't beat ESATA.
