Rage's Benchies
« on: July 09, 2008, 07:49:05 PM »
OK people. The time has finally arrived. All the parts for my new 'UberRig' has arrived, been installed and ready for the world to judge. Time to pwn the competition! The specs are as follows:

- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 @ 2.66 (stock, for now)
- 4GB (2X2) OCZ Platinum DDR3-1600 Ram (stock, for now)
- ASUS P5E3 Premium@Wifi-n
- XFX Geforce 9800 GX2 Black Edition GPU (also at stock, for now)

And now, the benchies:

3DMark 2001 SE: 33024 (Not optimized for Vista apparently, so guess it doesn't count )

3DMark 03: 54213

3DMark 05: 17670

3DMark 06: 14493 :happy0203:

3DMark Vantage Performance: P13006

3DMark Vantage High: H7952

3DMark Vantage Extreme: X4611

Please keep in mind the following:

1. All benchamrks were being run under Windows Vista, hence the so so performance in certain benchmarks (will be reposting scores under XP after OC).

2. As stated under system specs, all components were left at stock settings.

3. All benchmarks were run at default program settings.

4. I'm run Vista 32, not 64. That's why you'll notice only 2.8GB ram detected by system :crybaby2:. Dropped from 3.25 to 2.8GB after installing GPU. I know, it sucks. But say what? I'll install Vista 64 sooner or later.

Special thanks given to:

Saxman (for placing the order for my RAM and case)
Seecarr11 (for arranging everything else and for excellent service! You the man dawg !)

Now, if anyone needs me, i'll be in Curepe Junction with a tin can beggin for change. Cause after building this beast, I'm officially BROKE!!!!

Wow...I KNEW that system would kick some ASS... :awesome:

God-DAMNNN!!!

Nuff respect son...after all, some LOUD money pelt out there, so anything less is unacceptable.
...and yes, some proper OC-ing is in order.  That CPU can reach 3.4 GHz easy on air cooling,
but it will require a voltage bump.

Somehow, I doubt I can beat that, even with the 4870, remember, thats two GPUs on that GX2.
That MASSIVE CPU score is due in large part to the Physx API, which is now included in all new Nvidia drivers.
It boosts the CPU performance significantly in the physics tests, which might be considered 'cheating' by some,
but thats just one of the benefits of using a 9-series Nvidia card.

Although there are now modified ATI drivers that can run the Physx API as well.

Personally, I wish everyone's rig could be that uber (its a fantasy, I know ) so we could have some truly
outstanding LAN-parties.

^^ I agree with everything there except the last two lines.

That would suck because then there will be no competition.

I've been hearing good things about the 4870's and overclocking....expect me.

Yea...i've been pondering getting myself a quad core next month. Ill decide whether i'll go with a 45 or 65nm depending on how funds go because both of then can be overclocked.

Bang for buck the Q6600 and 9450 are actually equal, oc'ed or not as you have to factor in the 20% increase the 9450 has over the q6600 with a 50% price bump, the 6600 is $230 or less at amazon and the 9450 is $319, there is also the 9300 but it seems to be slower than the 6600.

it's a price game, now who wants to loan me another 4850 or 4870 :D

Glad to help, Rage. I should be thanking you for allowing me to assist with the install and giving me the honour of witnessing the first benchies. (btw, wasn't the 3d06 score 14630 on the first run?) I know you're itching too but remember no overclocking just yet  :shakehead:. Things went really well considering all that drama with the car  :ko:

So you'll be in Curepe eh? we'll i'm headed straight to the bank like 50 so i'll drop you off  :happy0203:
Thanks again

Forget him OC the beast.

if he overclocks his warranty will up as per seecarr11, hence why he said no O/C'ing as yet...give it a month or so, if anything has to burn in/fail it should do so by then with these lvl of parts...

I believe a proper stress test should be done to weed out any bad parts.  You should run the quad-core
version of Prime95 for 24 hrs straight at stock settings.  This will identify any weak links between the CPU, mobo,
and RAM.  A proper test of the GPUs is to run a looping test of 3DMark06 for the same time frame.

For that kinda money you need to identify any faults pronto.

You're gonna have to work miracles with that system to beat Arc's score, man and im certain you'll be too scared to overclock that cpu past 3ghz so you might as well hand the crown over to arc and done.

it was 14630, but i forgot to take a screenshot. when i get a higher score, i'll update wit screens. longest 60 days of my life without being able to OC :crybaby2:

I believe a proper stress test should be done to weed out any bad parts.

I'll take ur advice. Thanx.

so how exactly does someone join the 'Arc Fanclub'? is registration free? I mean, I didn't spend this much money on a rig to fight down man fuh crown (although it IS nice to be wearing it ). it's just that i always wanted to build the PC of my dreams, and i finally have. geez, be happy fuh a man nah?

Why would you think i'm not happy for you? Its just you have a beast of a system and to NOT flaunt it? Well its totally up to you captain.

Being cautious and being afraid are two very different things. Stretch the system's legs man, see what it can do. Only then you can call yourself an amateur overclocker.

i believe he can't/won't, his parts are on warranty i see (mentioned earlier), so not to void it he can't overclock it, i say those are pretty good scores for a stock system, and if i was him, i would be content in his situation.

Well, the time has come. Warranties have expired and it's time to overclock!!! Yay!! I started on Sunday and so far I've gotten to CPU up from 2.66 to 3.04Ghz. Not bad for a start. I'm having a bit of trouble getting it stable at anything higher, but I'll try upping the frequencies in smaller increments and see what I get. Here's the scores thus far.

3DMark06: 16549

3DMark Vantage: P13665

I gotta say, I'm quite impressed by the performance of the Q9450. Not even OCed by 400Mhz and I get a 2000 point increase in 3DMark06!!! Must....go....further!!!! Oh, BTW, to those haters who said that I'll be 'too scared' to go past 3Ghz, I say......IN YOUR FACE!!!
